Bert Sunova Huntington Beach Event

“Sunova” is the name of his brand of board …unless he’s changed it since his Gold Coast move.

I hope you guys get to meet him .

ben

go bert

whooooooo hoooo

Okay

I did my part went and posted the obligatory promo announcement at the SurferMag forum in both the design and general sections.

I’m sure those kids over there will go off with their wise*ss remakes, but hell if I can get 2 or 6 people to go see Bert who would’ve never gone cause they didn’t know, then I’ve done my part. Dream big but settle for small increments of change…

Sorry I can’t be there Bert…

I sincerely hope you and Nev have a strong showing, generate some press and ruffle up some industry feathers… Tell QS to drop you a mil or two and so you can start doing some slater full page ads with him popping some big airs on your “woodies” like Justin… If not then maybe Bong can do it and have Rasta and Munga be your spokemen instead.

Maybe this is the crack in the door we’ve all been waiting for…

Best wishes for the weekend

Good luck on the weekend Bert, from all us Wozzies…

Best of luck Bert, is that an offshore I hear… No, its the winds of change. Careful they dont nail your board to the pier

or him to the pier …

CLASSIC, Burnsie !

Oneula , your bong and munga and rasta comment is right on the money , I reckon ! [goosebumps as I write this !]

Bert … are you there ?

have a great one and open a few eyes in the midst of the circus !

ben

p.s. … I hope ya don’t cause another riot this year …

now, if they can just fly THIS guy over to interview you , Bert, you’ll be known WORLDWIDE !!

Howzit oneula, Yes I agree about the kids and their remarks. But what gets me is I was talking to Alana Blanchard’s uncle and Alanas Board was stolen at the us open basically right from under their noses. No respect for even future pros.Aloha,Kokua

where’s bert?

Probably that big guy right up front…

most pros aren’t over 6’ I think Bert is

Yeah, that’s Bert at the front of the board. Bert is great… His boards look way better in person and you can’t believe how light they are to lift. I really enjoyed meeting him face to face after all his building tip posts. And Glenn and I figured we were like little kids who had just met their favorite surf star. If you are wondering about the level of push that Nev and Bert will be capable of - worry no more. His boards are so far advanced from anything out there right now. Glenn and I also had the good fortune to talk with Greg Loehr, Ken Ebert, Bert Burger, Nev and their financial guy (who was very understanding of creative individuals), and I can tell you that Bert has gotten himself in a very good setup. Nev is really an incredible person and I hope that he posts on Swaylocks at least to tell the story of shaping and fiberglassing the Big Board. Unbelievable! We tested Greg Loehr Resin Research RTM resin (infusion) up at Cerritos before we went to Huntington Beach and Greg may shape an eps blank and laminate with epoxy at the Cerritos College surfboard seminar. Greg is a great guy, too, always smiling and has some pretty classic stories that flow in conversation very naturally. He also sketched in the sand a really incredible fin design that he conceived for twin fins a while back that may be produced in the near future. Ken is doing it with his carbon fiber/honeycomb core hollows, according to Bert. I’m still numb from the shock of the future, and I hope that you get a chance to meet them and see for yourself. Good luck at the mags!

Do you think that this answers the question about diagonal placement of wood for twang … (the deck also has similar wood layout)

great pics daddio…sounds like a good outing for all…yeah the nev thing sounds real positive…

those boards with the diagonal boards are stunning to look at…makes a lot of sense physically too flex wise…

so whats this KBOARD?

is KS gonna try/ride one?

what a shocker that would be huh?

good onya guys…

ps- bert looks very similar to my older brother danny…same height too

So does this mean that Bert’s boards (or the technology and craftsmanship) will finally be available in the US? I’ve been saving to splurge on a few boards, but would gladly sink all that cash into ONE Burger board (I say that because I’m aware that the better quality and craftsmanship costs quite a bit more… $ well-spent IMO).

Howzit daddio, I bet they blew some minds with their boards, they are really beatiful.Aloha, kokua

Just checked out the pics - wow! Using the diagonal balsa is really innovative, he’s not just using balsa as a core to seperate two skins of glass - he’s exploiting it’s end grain compression/tension properties. When the board bends, the deck balsa is in compression, so it pushes back, giving the board the twang. How does the morph bottom works? Is all just the concave deck (which will try to flatten out when bent, therefore transfering egnergy around the rails squeezing the bottom inward creating the concave)? or does the diagonal deck balsa also transfer energy around the rails to the bottom too? I notice the K-board bottom only has the diagonal balsa in the tail, I assume this maintains the bottom shape in the tail, while the straight balsa flexes inwards creating the concave ahead of the fins. Either way the morph bottom is brilliant! The bottom concaves as the board flexes in bottom turns, creating extra lift which loads the board up with more energy, so you’ve got the mechnical twang and the hydrodynamic twang working together to get more speed out of the turn. No wonder Kelly’s got one - these boards will give a real edge in competition and when every pro’s got one, every kid will want one too. Nev and Bert are liscensing this technology? I’m going to talk to my accountant.

Diagonals/springery woods in certain locations innovative? offered all this since 1991? There’s a bit more to it than just that. But you are right it can be beneficial.

First one is the half sperm/half ying-yang. We call it the springer spang.
