Best all around board for Florida waves?

Being that Florida usually gets small mushy waves with a every rare occasional classic type day. What would be the ideal florida board for a 42 years old long time recreational surfer, that weighs 185lbs?

Give Steve Forstall a call @ 321 676 5307

Funboard. Somewhere between 6’8" and 7’6" depending on how well you paddle. Will ride everyday except maybe the really small days. Get a longboard for that. Fish do well too. Ned’s right, Forstall does make a nice one.

the best all around board for Florida would be the FP FP: Fat Pig , full outline.

Victor, Maybe try to break your search down a littler further, relying upon your experience and expectations. There mainly three styles/lengths of boards that would work in those waves: short, fun, and long. After which, guys like Greg (as you can see) could really steer you in the next direction of that preferred flavor; i.e., fish, egg, fun, etc. Best, Herb Bean

Here’s a start. Talk at length with Greg Loehr (GL10@aol.com), Forstall, the guys at Island Water Sports. There are several other shapers in the Melbourne Beach area that are also worth consideration. The three mentioned, however, do excellent work with styro/epoxy to which I am partial.

Forstall is a great consideration If you want to see some of his shapes check solosurfer.com. I gotta plug Mccoy nuggets on this one as well great for what you described. I think Birtch at split lip makes a nice board as well. He is in central florida as well. Hello Laconic. Took care of your fin today. Ship tomorrow.

… if you can’t spring for two boards right away, a “tweener” - around 8’ to 9’ will cover anything. All you gotta do is decide between a big boy tri or a classic longboard shape … I’m partial to single fins with some extra kick in the tail and a soft rail around 8’6" - 8’10"… Pat O’hare makes a GREAT longer type board for Fla…

That’s good news Atom, I look forward to giving the Horan Starfin a twirl.

Im building a board from my experiences at cocoa beach small mushey a 6’4" fish should be fun

Probably 80% of the time I ride my 6’2" Fish shaped by Steve Forestall, EPS/Epoxy durable as heel and rides great. When it gets 5’+ I ride a 6’10" quad, under 3’ my 9’0" LB. I also just picked up a 7’0" Mayo Egg 5 fin Bonzer can’t wait to get it out in some clean surf.

Just an FYI I talked to Forstall a few weeks ago about ordering another board and he said he is no longer shaping EPS/Epoxy boards, only PU/PE. I’m bummed about that because I don’t think anyone could construct a more durable board than Forstall. They all ride great too.

If I could only have one board it would be a toss up between a Fish or a LB.

FL guys should talk to Mike Daniel about his signature fish (and anything else) in WRV/Coil

EPS/RR/proprietary Coil layup

Durability is a discrete side effect of their methods–theyre into making pure lightsabers for pros, but apparently they last

IMHO, the best board you could have for Florida (or anywhere else) would be one that you shaped, glassed, sanded, finned and waxed up and rode. One of the experiences of a lifetime!

Guys - Any particular reason why Steve Forstall is dropping eps foam/epoxy resin ? Geez it seems that Steve is one of the more accomplished shapers/builders in eps & RR epoxy (including the guys out in Cali.) Waz up???
