I re-read several threads on Swaylocks on a monthly basis and these are my favorites from 2006!
Bill Barnfield explains how he uses rail bands to translate board and rail rocker.
Quad Fin Templates and Location/Toe/Cant suggestions - 6 pages of contributions! - Started by Oldy in preparation for his “Journey of a Quad” Thread.
“whats wrong with my planer technique?” - A simple thread that turns into advanced planer theory, and some thoughts on what it takes to be an elite shaper…
Barnfield’s Broken Board Repair Manual
Thanks again to everyone who posts here.
I agree with the planer technique thread, that was the one thread all year which really, I think, helped a lot of us go from amateurs to the next level.
I also really enjoyed Carl Olsen’s threads on his spoon and his finless.
Some amazing wooden fish of different types were inspiring - Wood_Ogre’s technical sophistication, Roy’s latest has got my attention, Grain’s beautiful kits and Danny Hess’ solid entries, and finally SuperFatPat’s problem-solving ordeal that turned into a work of art.
But, for me, Oldy’s Journey of a Family er of a Quad was everything I’d ever want to read.
All good, but I vote for CarveNalu’s posts on SUPs and the great photos:
The most stoked thread…
Chip’s
“…meanwhile …(mat riding photos)”
The “Ecological Footprint” was my favorite.

ps sorry I don’t know how to make a link live."
Link 'em guys!
Good thread if I do say so myself–makes me go and visit threads I missed or skipped, if you link 'em-the SUP and the mat threads are great!

Almost totally agree with you, falcon. However, I would add Oldy’s Journey and I will hold on Bill’s Repair Manual until it is complete. I’m sure it will make my 2007 list though.
Bill’s wisdom on rail bands was a real penny dropping moment for me. I’ve really struggled with rail bands on the few boards i’ve shaped and had abandoned the planer on the last couple. I read that post the night before I started shaping my rails on a recent board and I still really didn’t get what Barnfield was saying. But i picked up the planer the next day and had a go and, as i started planing, I could see what he was saying. i was so stoked!
For me, when i see anything by Barnfield, Thraikill, Kokua, Resinhead and Doc, I take extra notice. There is a lot of wisdom residing in many who post here but I think I’ve learnt most from the above.
