just wanted to say a big thanks to all who helped me out, through swaylocks on my very first hollow board. couldn’t have done it without bugging the hell out of everybody for the last 3 months.
cant wait to start the next one.
cheers…

Damm… it’s a wonderful good looking board!!!
How could I miss the process post???
Right result that Shifty.
Thats a fantastic looking piece. What are the woods you used?
Did you post any progress/process shots anywhere?
I’ve done four hollows now and none of them come close to that, totally beaut mate.
Any more shots of the deck and the rails would be good to see.
cheers jase. i really appreciate that. i never posted any build stage shots in the past cos ive only just learnt how to do that. happy to send some frame shots and stuff if you like…
the timber is pine and cedar with cork and ply rails and balsa nose and tail. its a bit heavy overall.

Heck no – post a detailed thread for all of us to see!
here is a more detailed view of the whole process.
first up is the ribs and stringer.
then the nose job
then tail.
then i glued up the side spars.
so thats about the whole frame done. all under the watchfull eye of my old faithfull hound, paddy.
prepping up the deck.
glueing it all up.
laying up the cork and ply rails.
glassing it all up in the spray booth at work.
and finally the finished product! ive just spent the entire day surfing it. there is a lot of satisfaction in surfing your own board after sooo much work.
looking forward to starting the next with the help of the aku shaper program. if you dont have it, download it now! everybody should have it.
cheers again…
sooooooooooooooooooooo sick awsome job man!! iam inspired to start my own hollow project
Shifty thats a seriously nice piece of work…watch out, crew might want one, ten more crew want one…the next thing you know, you are out the back in Gash!
I mean to say, its a lovely craft…if you have a real job!
Cork in the rails?
Josh
yeh, i have a real job. im a panel beater out behind gash! hahaa.
the rails are cork and ply. i just used the tiles you do floors with.
Hi Sean -
It turned out great! Another amazing framed hollow wood board hits the water.
I don’t know if you “doctored up” the glass issue you had posted about but it looks like a damn nice glass job to my eyes.
A seriously fine looking board!
thanks john. and thanks for your help. the faulty glass thing just doesnt show up real well in photos. nobody seems to notice anyway.
I’m digin those cork rails
sweeet board… Mr. Shifty
SHIT SHIFTY, That board is SICK!!!
Big clappin session for you dude, amazing craftmanship, truly beautiful.
You gonna do more?
Moonfish
cheers. yeh, gunna have a go at a 6’6". something a little more user friendly. none of this pointy nose and tail shit either. round all the way next time. maybe have a go at using spruse and cedar. try and keep it all a lot lighter.
Now that would be very cool!
So what was the weight of this one then?
oh and one last question, after riding it all day, how did it go?
i havent put it on the scales yet but i think its around the 18kg/36lb mark!
but it is 10 ft long.
i surfed it at a place called torquay point. a long slow kinda fat right hander at about 3ft. the perfect place for it. its not the sort of board you can come hard off the bottom with. just like surfing a trad longboard only a little looser. i think the rocker really helped there. id love to surf it when it gets a lot bigger but if anybody gets in my way i could kill em!
