I have been out of the water the past month at college. I am wondering if any of you find that when you are out of the water for a bit you find yourselves using larger or stiffer fins? I find the composite fins too flexy/no drive and today i usually love the fiberglass G-5’s from FCS but they felt really flexy too. Just wondering if anyone notices the same effect?
Even when I was surfing 6 days a week for 10 years, I’d gravitate towards bigger than normal fins.
Lately, my twin with 6.25 x 5.75" fins seem a little small, but that’s my small wave board.
My semis with 4.75"s in tri seem just fine as is…
thanks for the response leedd. i was just wonderring if anyone notices this, i’m from up north so if anyone has any questions on cold water gear i am sure i can be of assistance. the waves were fun today, head high-overhead. i think my problem was just over killing it on the bottom turns. looks to be fun again for tomorrow, surfed for 7 hours today and at the end of the session the fins were feeling a bit better.
Last week two days, my wetsuit came unzipped out there, but since I was wearing polypro under, didn’t notice for an hour or so…
Teethchattering incontrollably, I finally figured out what was causing the cold.
But my wetsuit seemed to have no paddling restrictions after riding a few waves…
cheah leedd comes january we will be surfing in slush at some of our breaks. i usually use a 6/4 but last year i was using a 5/3 rip curl ultimate fireskin (whatever they’re calling it these days) and it was fine. this year i’m using the same suit again with the polypro full sleeve and polypro leggings and it’s still pretty warm. wearing 3mm neoprene socks in you 7mm boots helps too.
