Custom Burford blank to match the deck to the rocker to get as buch strength in the foam as possible.
Machine profiled, as in it does the out line, deck profile and the rocker. I hand shaped the bottom concave and the bottom rail contours. The machine is like a computer guided belt sander.
It’s made for a 90-95 kg punter, he’s a beginner but I thought this could help him transition as he improves.
Its my 5th board and only the second one I have desigened and shaped 100% myself, but 'cause its for someone else im getting it contract glassed.
Its a barter for him taking the wedding photos, best way to get my fiance on “board” (ba-doom tish) with my shaping addiction ever…
Just as I was moving it around to take pics i donked the nose on the rafters,** bummer**…!!!
Sorry the pics are in the wrong order and on the side and upside down.
?? Haven’t heard of one of them before (have seen CNC shaping machines with router-bit like “tools” but haven’t seen any using a belt sander to do the job); care to show us a pic of the machine?
Whoa! That machine is fucking insane. I’d love to see a finished cut off that. Obviously no concave wings, swallows, etc. It seems like a huge investment to only get 75 percent there.
Sorry phone did something weird, look at the fourth pic or so and the one before it. You can see the top of the blank as I comes straight of the machine and the bottom as I’ve started to clean the concave after mowing down the middle with the plane and the sue forming it and a bit of evening out. At that stage I hadn’t touched the rails so you can see the right angle. I like that I have to do a fair bit by hand…
All good. I probably didn’t make it very clear. Old mate at the factory has a shape 3d comparable router bit machine all set up and needing a few small tweaks before it’s ready. Then I can cut loose with some other designs like the cornice FireWire copy I’ve been playing with. Even got contacted by the dude from trinity who took the design to FireWire initially. He’s been giving me tips to refine the file. Pretty keen on that idea…
