Blank Sanding

I’ve been fine sanding blanks using spoonge foam and screen as seen in “Shaping 101”.I got tired of trying to grab the foam. So I hot glued a cotton work glove on the backside, it works great." You can also use it as a cathers mitt" Does anyone know how to keep the foam from slipping and shifting and still be able to unload the dust? "ei contact cement. Thanks … Roger

Oh yea,try a furry mitt used for washing cars instead of the cotton glove. You can trim the fur to the desired plush you want.Herb

i’ve never used a sponge. not enough control and too mushy for me. this is a wood block with 1" thick dense foam glued to it with spray adhesive. a radius is then trimmed in the foam at the sides. you grip the screen against the wood block with no slipping at all and the screen has a nice semi-firm backing. i use it with everything from 36grit paper to fine screen.

Gene, No need to grip at all, if you cover the bottom with felt, and it allows for a flatter, smoother screening surface, with whatever you use for a block /sponge.Herb

Yeh, Herb, I went to the fabric store and got 12x12 felt pads and spray glued them to my foamies, they offer just enough resistance to keep the screen in place. During the Santa Ana’s, with the zero humidity, nothing wants to stay put.
