I’m a big boy, 6’2" ranging from 210-230 # depending. I’m looking to shape a shortboard for myself. Love riding singles and fishes, and I had a great board from Eletic, but it was stolen. So now that I’m into shaping, I want to shape another. The board was super flat and had alot of volume. What blank will net me a good sized board? I’m thinking of something between 6’2" and 6’5". I’m hoping to get it close to 3" thick. Any rocker suggestions? Thanks for any help in advance.
69 a
6’9" A or the 7’3" B
I like the new 6’8" P. You probably will to 'cause it sounds like you dig a flat rocker and a thicker rail.
Exactly. I don’t see that blank on the website though…Thanks for the suggestions guys.
6’9A…good choice…yeah the ‘A’ blanks are less rockered than the ‘R’ blanks…if you dont have a Clark catalog, get one or print online. Always wise to pick a blank that minimizes shaping…especially rocker.
I use the rocker drawings to compare to existing boards I own…place the board in a similar view and stand back about 10-20ft…hold the drawing out in front of you and compare rockers…I’ve gotten to the point where I can see 1/8" changes in tail rocker…
one of the keys to ease of speed is smooth rocker…tail flips bog in avg surf
To the new or un experienced shaper the 6 9 a Looks unsuitable for a big guy shortboard because of the lack of nose rocker at the deck line. It’s simply a matter of removing foam just behind the nose area and blending the foil properly into the chest area. DO NOT remove ANY foam at the tip of the nose until fine sanding stages. The tail thickness of this blank could be a little less to make it optimum, but it’s workable. It’s a great blank if you don’t mind a little work. Lots of options with it.
