Blanks for Middle School Elective Class

I’m a teacher at High Tech Middle North County.  We offer SIGs or Student Interests Groups, which are class electives where the students get to sign up for special interests.  Due to the fact that at our school we have a lot of kids that are stoked on surfing and very interested in learning about the process of surfboard construction, I chose to offer Surfcraft Creations, where we will study the history of surfboard evolution.  The main application component is that the kids really want to have a go at shaping boards that we can take down to the beach at the end of the semester and demo as an entire class.

My question basically is…does anyone have any input or information on where I can get really cheap blanks or if there is anyone that my be willing to make a blank donation to our school?  There are 28 students in the class that are really excited about learning how to make boards.  I definitely I’m not looking at getting 28 blanks, but I believe that I would like at least 10.  I’m on a super tight budget, so I will be able to supply some blanks, but a donation are discount would make it possible to cut down the number of kids working on each board.  My goal would be to have at least enough blanks for the kids to be able to work in design teams of 3.  That would be amazing!

Please respond if you have any suggestions.

Thanks.

you can get seconds pretty cheap. most major shaping supply places sell seconds. they are basicaly imperfect blanks but would probably still work fine for what your doing. you can pick them up starting at like 20 bucks a blank. i like pau hana surf supply they are really helpful. good luck i wish i had something like that when i was in school.

You may not be interested? However I have more than 10 blanks that are CNC'd that a High Performance Thruster Model Squash tails. Sand down the groves nuck the rails. If you think they will work I can bless you. However your most likely looking to shape from a raw blank. The only advance to these pre-cuts is the kids would have a board that works better than there own? It would be a low impact way to expose the kids to the board building process?

I need to do a inventory of what I have: 5'2's; 5'4's, 5'6's, 5'8's x 2" thick (Grom Style NSSA COMP MODELS) Somewhere in that ream?

They were for a famous shaper that did not want them after they were cut over a year and 4 months ago.

Let me know?

PM me if interested?

If you want to do a field trip to our shop let me know and we can set something up?

Kind regards,

Surfding

I have some 6,9R's that are free

I can part with 5 or 6

Im in Yorba Linda

I have over 13 pre cut blanks with NSSA style rock and foil in the 5'6 to 5'8 range. It's too bad you ignore the opportunity for these kids?

I'm all about giving to the community however if you want to receive all it takes is a phone call!

MIA for a school teacher is kind of strange to me?

If you already have what you need at least say so?

Hey ding

I gave him 6 blanks

After talking with him it was apperant that he was not quite setup for the task he was taking on

Hopefully he got a game plan and is just caught up in the middle of it

He did mention that the first thing he had the pupils do was to start a Swaylock account

but who know's maybe he was a scammer

Thanks Ken. I was just trying to stoke out the kids. These pre-cuts were test cuts for a very popular shaper so the boards would have been perfect for the groms. Anyway someday I will find a home for all those grom pre-cut? Most of my groms are growing up now are riding 5'9's.

Thanks for the heads up.
