blanks made of molding polyurethane

Does anybody of you have tried this?. Due to the unavailability of foam blanks where I live, I want to make a surfboard out of two-component molding polyurethane just like in the beginings of foam boards. I want to know how to build a mold to minimize waste. Any advice, thoughts, comments or hints will be apreciated. Thanks in advance. Jack.

Can you get blue 8’ dock billets where you live? If so and you are interested check out the post I just put up on the “$14 blank” thread. Its a great alternative to using prefab blanks and you don’t have to deal with molds or the like.

email me if you want more info.

well, actually not, i wasn’t able to find nothing suitable to build any kind of blank. after an intensive search only found molding PU. I think would be interesting trying to build a surfboard the old way. Jack.

P.S. interesting thing you done, and cheap too. the kind of things i like. just like my $60 wooden surfboard. I wish i can try it sometime.

Get a sheet of 4x8 3/16th ply, cut in half lengthwise for boards up to 8’.

Use another sheet and cut into 6" strips, 8’ long.

Use the strips to outline your blank template, pining it to the 8x2 sheets with bolts, nuts, and washers to create a rough outline.

Pour the crap 2 part.

That’s the worse part…the 2 part is horrible stuff…weak, inconsistent, ugly, but shapes easily.

Oh yeah, rocker the 8x2 with progressive diameter PVC tubing, for a 4" nose kick and a 2" tail rocker.
