Board #1 Complete!!!!

What started out as an idea has finally become a reality: Shaping my own surfboard. The dimensions are approximately 5’6" by 21" by 2 3/4". I think it should ride pretty good. I would like to thank the following for helping me out with the completion of my board: JohnMellor, Presidio, Live4Truth, Probox-Larry, Kensurf, Greenlight, Bfich, Timmy, and the countless others that I can’t remember right now! Without all of you guys this would not have been possible. I will be ordering some fins soon and I will give you the ride report when and if we get waves. Here are some pictures for now!

So THATS why its called an egg! Congrats, great job, sunny side up an over ez.

Hey Snap…lookin’ good…I look forward to your post ride update!

Glad to see you worked out those probox difficulties. Board looks good can’t wait to here how she rides.

Very good !

Go surf!

Alright Snap 10, You made it(-: GOOD JOB. Welcome to the ProBox Movement.

Also special Thanks to Kensurf, Greenlight and Mahana for ProBox help with snap 10 project, you guys rock. Mahalo,Larry

thanks so much guys, couldn’t have done it without you

WOOT!

After “completing” my board I looked at the fins and realized that I didn’t grind down the tabs on the side of the boxes, which was a big deal because when I went to insert a fin in the box, it did not sit right. Also, I looked and saw my finboxes weren’t perfectly flush with the deck. So I set off to work. I fouind a dremel tool kicking around and grinded down the boxes, and the resin that was built up around them until the boxes were flush with the deck.(Actually a fraction below the deck because when I routed the hole for the boxes I also routed out the tabs on the jig, should have listened to Greenlight haha) Following that, the boxes were flush, but I had a couple nicks in the glass from the dremel so I mixed up a “mini-hotcoat” and spread a super thin layer of resin around the boxes. It turned out great IMO. One of the coolest things about the modification is that there is now a reddish tint outlining the boxes next to a bright orange deck, which I think is cool. I will update again when I ride it for the first time but that will probably be awhile since I haven’t ordered fins yet and where I live there can be long flat spells, especially in the summer. In the meantime check out this picture and does anybody have any recommendations for fins for the board? I am 125 pounds, still growing, and a “good” intermediate surfer, board will be used for waves in knee-chest high range on the weaker side probably. Thanks!

snap10, I am glade too see your R&D process. Making the holes with the dremel tool made your install hard, that area is your rest spot for the tabs. Nice to see you carry on until the job is done, good for you. Ask Greenlight for a set of the Production Quads, I think they will suit you nicely. Look forward to hear how your board rides. Mahalo, Larry

will do, thanks for the input

I just got back from a weekend of surf on the cape. The first two days had minimal surf but yesterday was knee waist and glassy, perfect conditions to try out my board. Well, the board worked like a charm!!! I couldnt have asked for a better homemade board. It catches waves like a funboard and flys down the line. It is a little slow off the bottom but once i pump it just flys. The glassjob held up great too!! I found the fins work the best farthest apart, it creates alot more drive and hold. I cant wait to surf it in bigger waves and I can’t wait to shape another board! Thanks again for all the help everyone has given me you guys are the best!
