Board design

Hi I am very new here and also new at the whole shaping buisness. Before I get cracking on my first board I really want to try and get the hang of some of the design process. I have designed a fish type board and I would be very greateful if I could get some comments on it - Good pionts - Bad points.

Hope for some feedback

hmm well, the outline is good. I would def jsut keep it simple bro. Just a consistent rail line and an easy bottome contour. On a fish, I think a flat to v off the tail is a good combo, most Old school fishes are this way. I dont know what that photo was suppoused to be (1’ off the tail) a single concave and a chinded rail? I would recommend tossing the chined rail for now and just make it a little sharper off the back if you want. Pretty much everythingn goes, a flat to single will work well, I personally have never rode a fish with that setup in large surf so I wouldn’t know how it would react. Flat to V is fast and is a tried and true set up. What ever you want to do will work… Rocker and fins are also a Huge part of the board. Don’t be intimidated though if it not perfect it will still be good. Once you learn to use everyhting in unison then your boards will really come to life. Thats all experience though. Read up on here. Pretty much anyhting can be found in the archives. Good luck.

Hi Thanks for that reply! I see what you meen with the rails to the back configuration, and I have tried to change that, the only problem I seem to encounter is that whenever I manipulate the rails, the rocker of the board changes drasticly, and I want to try and maitain a really flat board top and bottom. Well that is probably just a matter of getting familiar with the program, but if any one has any suggestions on that I would be greateful!?

Thanks

Jolly

Like the guy said - keep it simple. It’s a different world in 3-D foam, than on the comp, so don’t sweat the changes the program puts into it “for you.” Your gonna see it a new way once you start working the foam with your own hands. My only thoughts from the pic is - looks like a thick tail. But, then I don’t know about “fish,” so you may wnat to check the resourses/archives… I just like thin tails.

Good luck -Taylor

Tail thickness seems a bit thick to me,too. But, might be what you want if your a big boy. Mike
