Board dimensions recommendations

Hi,

Im in the process of starting to make my own board for the first time, but im not entirely sure what dimensions to go with. I currently ride a a 7’6" minimal which is great, but i don`t really want to make a board exactly the same dimensions as this one.

I rode a friends 7’2" board a few months ago which i really liked as i was able to turn it easier - unfortunately, i cant measure it as i dont have access to it anymore. I ride in north devon most of the time at saunton sands which is really a longboard wave and can be a bit messy/mushy sometimes. Id like to make a 7'2', but im unsure of the width and thickness i should make it - id like it to have a good float so it catches waves easy, but im a bit unsure of making it the same width (or wider) than my current board.

Could i get away with making it quite thick, - say 3", but a thin board - im not sure if this would be idela or not? I wegh about 73kgs and im 5"8’ - i get to surf down there about once or twice a month.

I`ve already got most of my tools and equipment and have bought a 7’5" blank to work with.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,

Mike

If you want a 7’2, build a 7’2.

I’d keep it in the 21" wide range, give it some rocker, keep the nose on the full side, do a single concave the whole way, squash tail with a thruster setup, and use it on the better days.
