A friend of mine has asked me to shape him a board. He wants to begin surfing. He weighs 230 lbs. and is 5’11". I’m thinking something around 8’6", 3" thick either an egg shape, funboard, or longboard shape. I thought at first shaping a traditional style longboard over 9’ but thought maybe that would be too much board. Sorry for being so vague but I am trying to gather info. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.
if he cant surf and you can yu know ,longboard funshape…i just made a 9’3" for a “friend” who cant surf…hes been out a few times, feet on the board thats good i guess…sometimes he says he sucks because the board is made wrong ,(he leaves it at my house)then i think about the day before when me and my friends rode all kinds of waves with it, what a jack ass.
Those Morey Doyles are the best for learning, especially if they have long center fins that don’t bend too much. My only other suggestion, since you want to make it, is go really wide all the way down, and flat rocker. Fifty-fifty rails (really soft everywhere) and low rocker. That’s my opinion, for what it’s worth.
Good luck and have fun.
Oops, I’ll fix that signature at the end. It says stop whining, don’t give a crap. That wasn’t meant for you. I’ll fix it. Sorry.
Length is OK if he can stand up quickly.
But you gotta ADD thickness, and especially width. Go 3.5" thick and 25" wide, at least, with a FLAT deck and thick, boxy, turned down rails.
