Board Lock for Car Rack

Does anyone have experience with those board locks that lock your fin box to your rack system.I am buying a new board that will not fit in my vehicle, and sometimes I am able to surf on my lunch hour and want to keep my board with me at work. I’d hate to get a new board stolen. Would definately ruin my day.

i only used that kind of look (finbox-type) for windsurfboards. works pretty good. for glassed on surfboard fins try this: take a simple coil chain (you can pad it to avoid boarddamage) and put it around your board infront of the fins (between fins and widepoint this is). lock it pretty tight with a padlock. attach a nother chain to this padlock on one end and to your roof rack or towing hook (or whatever) on the other. you can’t move the first chain without damaging the board (knocking the fins of) and i think its unlikely that someone will hop on your car an kicks off your fins in front of the office during the day… worked good for my so! cheesr Zimmi

I did the same thing as the chain post except with plastic coated cable. Had 3 eyes swaged into it (they fit specific boards) and are extremely tight against the fins/board. Then just run a 2nd long cable from there down to whatever point you can lock to (in the case of jeep wranglers you’re made with the two hood bumper things or the rollbars) I’ve got about 8 of these cut to length and swaged for different boards.

I’m a chain guy too…It’s more of an implied “This is really gonna be a hassle if you want this thing” presence that a chain affords…

Tried posting this last night but the internet connection gave out during an incredible blood red aurora boralis literally filled the sky above my house. Get a locking hasp from a hardware store (hinged metal that covers it’s own locking loop; like on a shed door); coat bottom with felt or rubber to protect board; drill a small hole to put fin screw through bottom plate and sucure into fin tab. Close hasp cover and lock with padlock and cable. Pretty cheap insurance. Rob Olliges
