Latest creation, an 11’3" longboard with a difference. Blank was a really crappy Safari foam triple stringer, which I would not call a first by any standard of the imagination.
It was one of two blanks, the other was a single stringer and the quality of the blank was good, it appears that was a new pour, whereas mine was a much older blank, stringer wasn’t glued properly and they’re not straight either…
The design is a larger version of another board I shaped for a friend, which he loved and which goes like a bullet in bigger surf. Concave goes all the way through to last third, then splits and goes out the tail. Tail is veed as well, the rails have a bevelled edge starting at the front going back to 18" from the tail, as found that these hang into the side well when the waves get steep, something like a greek rail maybe, but not so profound…? The board is also designed to surf the bore, the idea being the board gets out of the water on step better and has less drag/surface area in the water. The concave seems to trap a layer of air under the board, it feels much lighter under foot and is quiet easy to carve, compared to others I have made and ridden.
