I picked up a perfection board for my son off CL yesterday for $40 which I thought was a good buy. It needs some attention which I am looking forward to doing. I have a few dings and the tail needs repair as the foam is exposed. I’ve read differing opinions of polyester vs epoxy… Enough to know I don’t know what to use!
I am going to post a few shots in hopes someone could let me know what “juice” I need to make the repairs with.
You need to add 2.5 to 3 inches to the tail of that board …chunk of foam or balsa or make a tailblock out of strips of wood…stir stic from Home Despot if you’re desperate …
As Keith mentioned; you need to add a few inches to the tail. Maybe you know someone who might have a scrap of Poly foam. That would be the simplest. Just square off the tail with a saw. Glue a new piece of foam on the tail. Re-shape to match and glass the repair. Looks like you are also going to need to use some Q-cell filler as well. Just mentioning the Q-cell in case you hadn’t thought about it. Lowel
Good advice. Call Fiberglass Hawaii or EZ foam for your supplies and they will tell you how to mix and apply. The Qcell is a powder to be mixed with the resin to make a paste.
PM me with an address. If it’s in the Continental US, I’ll mail you a piece that will handle that. If you know of a local shaper or glass shop in your area they usually have cut-offs that they will give you.
just a quick follow up on my little board project. Lowell was kind enough to send me a piece of board tail and some instructions. I’ve enclosed some pics of my finished project. It’s not perfect nor particularly pretty but it’s solid and I enjoyed doing it. I need to re do the paint but I ran out of time before our trip so for now it will have to do. I put a new pad on the back as well. We should get this in the water Tuesday at the latest.
And yes, I realize it’s obvious I’ve never fiberglassed anything.
Special thanks to Lowell, who didn’t have to help but did and it meant a lot to me.
