Ok I need some help with this. I built a board for one of my friends and he was thrilled with it. Well his girlfriend wants to get into surfing, and approached me about making a board for her. She’s so petite, 5’0 tall and 100 lbs. I’ve never made a board for someone like this before. What size board would you recommend for someone that size that has no surfing experience? I was thinking a funshape template, ultimately she wants to rip a shortboard and doesn’t want to longboard.
My girlfriend is the same height, though a few pounds heavier (shhhh - don’t tell her I said that!) She rides a 7’0 Becker mini tanker. I can probably pull some dimensions off it tomorrow if you’re interested. Not quite the ‘ripping thruster’, but for a beginner probably a bit better choice I would imagine. Gotta learn to catch the waves and turn before you can ‘rip’…
Yeah, that’d be great if you could give me some measurements. She needs a scaled down beginner board to build a good surfing foundation.
My wife is 5’2" & 120lbs, she wanted a fun shape to play with so I made this for her. It’s a double ender thats really forgiving and fun to ride. You can add side fins and make it a 2 +1. Dims= 7’2" x 16"N x 21"W x 15"T x 2.5" Soft eggy rails until last 18" of tail, turns down and hard. Rolled bottom under nose, fading into flat bottom with very slight V leading into front edge of fin box. Flat behind box. Really fun to ride on anything from knee to several feet overhead. Paddles easy and catches waves like a charm.
First time adding pics to a post. Hope it comes out.
