Boards 2 & 3

Here are boards number 2 and 3 for me. I learned a ton on these boards and I know they aren’t perfect, but they aren’t too bad either. I’m pretty stoked on the way they came out. Thanks to everyone on here for the help with fin placement, concaves, etc… I already started shaping board #4 and I was surprised how much easier it’s coming.

Board #2: 5’ 10", 22" wide fish. Flat bottom, tried to keep it simple. My Uncle’s buddy made the wood fins for me, they came out real nice. The “buttcrack” in the swallowtail was kind of a pain in the ass to clean up, especialy the stringer, but I think I can do it better next time.

Board #3: 6’ 6"/ 18 1/2"/ 2 1/2" My friend wanted me to make him a copy of my first board (6’ 6" round pin single fin) but with a 2+1 fin setup and a single to double concave. I ran into some trouble with the double concaves, I kept messing them up and they got deeper than I wanted. I still think it will ride OK though. Plus I think my friend that I made if for could surf and have fun on just about anything that floats. I stuck an Indonesian coin in it and it looks pretty cool!

Board #2

Congrats chadapotamus,

Post us some pixs to check out.

Board #3

lookin pretty darn good man! I’ve just finished spraying my first board… a 6’2" fish. It came out pretty damn good for a first attempt all by hand. Gonna glass it this week. I’ve already learned a lot, including that I kind of STINK with an airbrush… but it’ll all come with time and practice.

KILLER job on the artwork man, did you do that all freehand? Looks great.

chadapotamus,

They look good, nice artwork. What is board 4 going to be?

Yeah I really like the way the art turned out. I drew it all out in pencil and then did it in paint pens. It looks awesome, but it took FOREVER!!! If I don’t like the way this board rides though, I’m hanging it on the wall.

Board #4 is going to be another round pin single fin, but with this one I’m going shorter, wider, and thicker. I actually already cut it out, planed to thicknes, cut in the rockers and foil. 6’ 3", 20" wide, 14" nose and 14 1/4" tail. I moved the wide point 2 inches back from center. The other single fin I made has the WP 2" up from center and goes great in bigger, steeper reef or point break style waves. With this one, I want more manuverability and wave catching power in smaller beach break style waves. Kinda trying to make something similar to all the merrick single fins that are everywhere. I’ll probably finish shaping it sometime this week.

I already planned out the next board and bought the blank, man I’m getting addicted to this.

thats some really sick artwork, you def have some talent…keep it up

hey BTW… for cleaning the “buttcrack” of the swallowtail… I also ran into a kind of tough time, but found that the combination of a round surform and a dremel with a woodcutting bit made it ok to deal with. Still took some screwing around to get it just right though.

chadapotamus,

Those boards look great. I think we have the same taste in boards. Mike
