Finally got the time to pick up the airbrushes and commit the design to the finished shape. Hey, I realize that I really like doing foam much more than those practice attempts on paper. With the guidance provided from several folks and a bit of courage here is the product of my first art project.
I am kinda stoked the way it turned out. I was thinking of 3 layers of 4 oz top and 2 layers of 4oz bottom but this time the third layer on the top would only span 2/3 of the board. I scored a set of 6 inch mini boxes and fin’s from Fin’s unlimited and Mike Eaton turned me on to a set of Lexan side fin’s so I am set to go.
I forget …is it POLYSTYRENE foam you’re using …is that why so many layers of glass ??!!
[my polyurethane “benzer” blank got one layer 4oz top and bottom …I wanted the stringerless kept light …and to feel it flex [haven’t yet … but, that may actually be a GOOD thing , I think !!]
Moondoggy - Great job. The butterfly reminds me of an old “Con Surfboards” ad in Surfer in the mid-sixties. They had a model called the Iron Butterfly that I always wanted as a Kid… takes me back. Keep popsting pics as you progress. Well Done.
No glassing for me. Probably take it up to PSG as they are fairly close. I was hoping to finish before the summer rush. Kinda late. I actually scored two sets of those Eaton fin’s Wonder what a Zinger Fish would look like hmmmm. Next project…? Only my hair dresser will know for sure
Chipfish: I usually go with 4x4x4 top and 4x4 bottom. I just like the way it looks and feels. Its a heavier board anyway due to the extra lumber
Iron Butterfly, Whoa, I am from that time zone (space and time). Yup, I can still hear “In Godda La Vida” drum solo going off…
