Not quite a longboard and definitely not a fish. With the number of bonzers showing up on here recently it go me interested in trying my hand at making one.
8’3" X 16 X 22 X 15
I stripped and reshaped an older board that I had made. Glassed with RR epoxy with 6oz glass bottom and 6x6 deck. Bonzer-style side runners, single concave starting forward of center going to a double concave between the side runners. The fins are homemade wood core tinted green with a slight foil on one side. The fins are set at about 12.5 up from tail, 1.5 in from the rail with a 1/4 toe and 20 degree cant.
Thanks, it’s the second resin swirl that I have tried. The first one came out pretty muddy but I am happy with the way this one turned out.
I had the board out for the first time today. Very small waves but I think it holds promise. Easy to catch waves and it glides nice. I think though that the wave needs more push to really tell if I am going to like it or not.
Resin swrils and epoxy, do you use the same pigment/tint as you would with poly?
Yep, same tint. The one thing I did notice with using the epoxy is that the swirls did not come out as sharp and defined as you get with poly resin. The main reason for that is that with epoxy you pour it on and let it soak longer before pulling with the squeegee. I guess I could have worked it just like poly resin but I was concerned that I would have too many pinholes if I didn’t let it soak.
