Bosch 1594 clicker (depth) mod - how to?

I’ve exhausted the archive search function, as far as I can tell.  The sum total of info on how to mod the clicker dial to change it to a smooth depth adjustment dial is below (three different authors:

Last thing, i unscrewed the depth adjustment handle and removed the two spring plates (2 little rectangles of sheetmetal under the handle) those are responsible for the "clicking" feel when you adjust the depth.

I converted a Bosch several years ago it was not the one
that you have but a 7amp model that sells for around $180.I liked it because it
had a reversable dust chute and the knob rotated 180 degrees for depth control.
Try this…pop the top of the knob off and see if there is a hex head screw that
holds it on.If this is the case reply back and I will tell you how to put a
lever on it like a skil or hitachi…………

If you notice on the Bosch the cutting settings are all
preset. You “click” through them as you go from zero to deeper and
back. You can remove the preset cutting settings to make it a smoother
adjustment through zero to full by cutting a slight notch in the base of the
knob, turning the planer over and giving it a smack with the flat of your hand.
Look from the case and knob at the tension pin. Cut there. The spring loaded
tension pin will fall out. There are two of them (rotate the knob until the
second pin is at the notch). It makes the movement more like the Clark-Hitachi
or Skil otherwise you might get a ladder like effect as you adjust your cut
along the blank. Slipped a piece of paper under the notch cut and just gave it
a little silicon to cover the cut.

I can’t figure out the right way to modify the clicker from these, or am hesitant to do what I think the posts are saying.

There are pretty clear posts (even illustrations) on how to modify the handle and safety, but (counter-intuitively) not the depth dial.

Can somebody help me out here, while also leaving the info here for future people who, like me, go through all the info on file and conclude that the 1594 is the most reasonable starting place, but have no clue how to change the depth adjustment from click-stops to smooth?

Please excuse the weird formatting gobbledygook paragraph – I was trying to inset the italics, no idea how to undo that.

Grab a small flathead screwdriver and pry the rubberized top off the twist knob; there is a small space for the screwdriver to go.  Remove the nut inside (watch out for the spring to shoot everyting apart when you do this) and pull off the plastic piece that includes the depth marks.  On the underside there are two little “clickers” made from thin steel strips.  Take those out and you will have no more clicking when you reassemble.

Thanks very much, rtp!
