so i failed with my router today trying to install my proboxs it slipped a little bit and took out a nice big extra chunk of foam what should i do to fix it? can i just fill it with foam or just fill it with extra cloth when i glass in the boxes?
If it’s not really big I just fill it with thickened resin when I put the boxes in. Sometimes, I’ll do it in 2 pours to be safe. Looks bad, but I don’t care. If you’re doing it for someone else, I don’t know what to tell you.
If you laminated with clear on white foam, a little white pigment might hide the mistake until you look close.
Cut a little piece of foam so that it is a little bigger than the gouge. sand it so that it fits pretty tight...Use a hot glue gun to put a dab of glue on the underside and stick it in place making sure no glue oozes out ..just a dab to hold it. Now sand the surface flush and re-route the box hole.
Use some lightweight drywall spackle if you have any bad spots that show ( if you do it right this won't be necessary)..when you set the box resin will seep around the hidden part of the plug and seal it in place..
This is the fastest way as you dont have to wait on a resin set to cure.
5 min epoxy will work also but you have to make sure it does not come close to the surface as it will yellow badly..
