Bottom contour

Hey guys, I’m shaping a 6’1"x14"x20"x15" double ended egg (rip-off of double ended Evolution board by Wayne Lynch)and need some help with subtleties on the bottom. It’s for small mushy surf so I have the bottom completely flat so far. I would like it to be a single fin, so what should I do in the tail section? Where should any changes in the flat begin and how far off the tail should the fin box be placed? Thanks D

i’d throw in a subtle vee in the tail to help keep the fin in the water and get on rail easier. around 4- 4 1/2" from the tail sounds in the ballpark for the box. don’t get suckered in putting it too far forward. thats my thoughts, some of the vets might have diff. ones. sounds like a fun board.

Dumb question time…what is a “spiral vee” and how is it different from a normal vee in the tail?

Dumb question time…what is a “spiral vee” and how is it > different from a normal vee in the tail?..As I understand it, a spiral vee peaks just in front of the fin/fins and fades out to flat at the tail.

i thought it was a concaved vee, sorta like a dbl barrel with the stringer lower than the rails…jim, herb, mm…???

it’s just subtle vee with a little concave in each panel. scott is right, it fades into a flat off the tail (no flipped tail). that flat running off the tail doesn’t shed as much energy as vee carried all the way through translating into more projection (this egg was built for small, mushy surf, right?) jim dunlop
