well ive decided to dip into the sub 6' range and go with 5'5x19.75x2-2.5". i am using a Ice9 5'11 blank. have it all cut out and squared up but before cutting the rails i am trying to figure out the bottom contours. if it helps its a pin tail at the moment.
i am looking to use this board in waist to overhead clean to windblown chop on the east coast. also this would be one of my main travel boards.
single concave into a v tail?
single concave throughout?
V throughout like one of the lost boards.
i am open to the wisdom of the more experienced shapers on this site.
also i havent figured out what type of fin setup i should go with.
i love the drive of keels but i like the release and looseness of running my one quad as a twin fin.
thruster? Quad? 2+1? 5 fin? keels? twin fin?
really just looking for a direction to go in. thanks in advance guys.
Is it a typical shortboard template? Sounds like it since you said pintail. If so, single concaves work well, and you could do a quad. With the right fin placement, it will feel loose and responsive.
? What are your sizes?
Don’t wanna be rude, but you want to be on top of the water on that board, to me and my sizes it sounds very small and narrow for a pintail.
Bottom contours can compensate a bit, concaves could generate lift, but wonders…? I don’t think so. Unless your other name is Jesus.
Could you shed some light on this part of the topic? if you please?
Thanks, Soul
well im about 6'3 at 185lbs. it is a very generic shortboard template.
it is a pretty small board but for almost all my boards ive made so far have been super fat in the middle. even my latest 6'8 wich is super thin only sinks to my belly button.
just put up my rocker & dimensions up for both boards in AKU shaper and i lost just about 3-4liters in volume.
if it doesnt work for me ill sell it. its also my tester board for vaccum bagging bamboo skins. before i go and do it on a friends board i am also in the process of making.
