I saw a very nice 9'1 on ebay the other day and somehow convinced my wife i deserved it!!. 9'1 x 18 x 22 x 14 x 3 jackson longboard. Almost new. Super happy and will give a ride report when it gets wet. I still haven't figured out how it'll fit in my corolla, but i'll sort something out haha. Always wanted a longboard, and i finally have one. Wrong time of year to get a longboard i suppose, but there are plenty of spots here that only get a fraction of the winter south swells, and honestly, i usually surf those spots anyway when we get a decent size swell. Should get it wet in the next few days, if i can get it to the beach!!. Might have to buy some soft racks.
YES ben i have pics, i just cant find the little cord from the camera to the PC just yet. When i find it i'll certainly post pics!
Only have an 8'' fluid foils dolphin but i reckon with sidebites it'll be fine. It fits in my corolla, i just need to remove the centre fin. No big deal. I'll eventually get soft racks, but for now at least i can get it to the beach. Using a legrope from my 7'10, which isn't ideal but i'll grab one tomorrow after work. Should be some swell tomorrow with good conditions and light offshore winds. I fuggen hope so!!
That is a nice looking board! I got my first longboard awhile back, a 9' Rockin' Fig. Loved that board, even got wave of the day at Topanga one crowded day, won't forget that one. Sitting above the pack, at the creek mouth, and a set wave came through right where I was - sweet! Rode it all the way below the lifeguard station, then got out. Had to sell the board out of economic necessity 'tho.
Still have a 9'6" Walden Magic and a 9' homebuilt that I have never ridden and needs a serious repair before I can (there's a story there, yeah, but never mind).
I'm not a real longboarder yet, but the older I get, the closer I come!
Oh yeah, and my 9'6" fits in my wife's corolla too! Fin out, back seat down, dashboard to trunk, but it fits! Gotta love those little cars.
Cheers guys, thinking of spraying over the flower, but not sure if i could be bothered, and the gloss is so nice and shiny i kinda don't wanna ruin it.
Legrope yes. Not very crowded here, but i don't want to take the chance. Maybe if i get really good i might, but i doubt it.

Took it out in waist high clean waves yesterday. Super fun, though its obvious i need to put lots more time in on it. Paddles great, catches waves fine, though the offshore wind seemed to get under the nose concave and lift me up and i'd miss the wave at times. On bigger waves it wasn't a problem. Steeper waves were tricky on take off, though if i get my back foot way back on the tail it comes around nicely.Keen for a bigger centre fin, and i've put in stiffer side fins, instead of the black plastic fcs junk.
On another note, when i got home i ran a straight edge over the bottom, and was surprised to see a lot of rolled vee from around halfway, all the way through to the tail. Im guessing this is to help it rail to rail??. Im also guessing that this is more of a modern/performance shape??
P.S i tried to cross step when close to the nose, never done it before, got almost there, got the wobbles so tried to put my foot back. Kooked out big time haha.
Lots of fun, and is going to get lots more water time.
Looks like a nice board Beery, be good for small days on the points but I’m guessing the flower doesn’t go down so well strapped to the corolla when you park up at the wollongong steel works and clock on for your shift?
It actually fits IN the corolla, deck down, with the centre fin out, so no one sees it!!. Maybe people will stay away from me in the water with the flower on it? Might get more waves ??
Howzit beerfan, Just keep working on the cross step since there is a saying " No Shuffling Allowed" and shuffling is a real kook move and I would rather blow a cross step than do the shuffle. Aloha,Kokua
Last 2 surfs in clean good shaped head high waves. Im totally addicted!!. It seems to go better in head high waves than the smaller stuff. I moved the fin back a bit and seems to be more drivy. Drops in great, bottom turns are smooth as, and turns great!
Another question for you guys, can you surf a modern longboard with a single fin?? and if so, what shape does what?? IM guessing a bigger dolphin ( 9" ) will surf pretty similar, but what about fins like the fatboy's, hatchet's, paddle fins etc??
Cross stepping does look mas cool but I have seen video of Dora and other famous long board riders shuffling as well as cross stepping. Everything has its proper place in the dance. Sounds silly but I used to always kook out trying to cross step because I would “think about it” while doing it. Finally got smart (or not quite so dumb) and found that if I sort of “feel the force” and just do it, it goes smooth as buttah. Body seems to be smarter than the mind…
" I'm guessing a bigger dolphin ( 9" ) will surf pretty similar, but what about fins like the fatboy's, hatchet's, paddle fins, etc?? "
.....try them all , Mark ,
try them ALL !
....and ....let us know what you discover , please !
stoked it came with a fin box , and fcs plugs ! ....
re : "flower " ....
maybe you could paint red 'bits' , and some random body parts , [ like , a booger's head , perhaps?] flying off the 'flower' , with jagged edges on the ..er..."petals" ?! ....so , then , the "macho" steel workers might be tricked into thinking that maybe it's a steel boat's propeller , running over people , or something ? just a thought ....
Im freaking loving this board. My wave range is knee high to a bit over head, and it goes great in all the waves i surf it. I prefer it at head high and over, it feels awesome taking the drop on a decent wave ( front side or backhand ), and it is quite manouverable on a wave with some push. Took it out this morning in some left over E swell, and had a blast. Not having any problems with the 2+1 setup. I thought it would lack a little drive, but haven't noticed it. Maybe in tiny waves a big arse 9" would be better, but i prefer to keep the 2+1 and hope for a bit more size haha.
