breathable vent plugs (gortex)

The whole idea of the “No Nonsense” gortex valve is that you don’t have to tighten or loosen anything, thats why it is a step up from those other ones. i.e. no nonsense with having to remember to tighten it before it gets in the water or loosen it immediatley when you get out before the sun heats the board up.

They mount flush to the deck so you are not going to trip on it or anything, but they are best put a little out of the way so that you don’t get wax in it etc. For instance on the paddleboards Bennett usually put them under the front hand straps. We advise people to rinse the valve by splashing a little fresh water on it after use but I don’t know if this is really neccesary.

P.S. I know this is Swaylocks and all, but instaed of reinventing the wheel to build your own, why not just use the one thats allready in production and devote your energy to building a better surfcraft

scroll down to foot strap inserts and vent plugs it’s the 1"thumb screwboard vent http://www.chinooksailing.com/web03/components.html#screws

I put it as close to the nose as possible just incase it is accidentally left open, this part of the board is highest out of the h2o

Where can I get the one thats already in production ???

These are the rotary valve components that I use with my surf mats. The plug is molded epoxy, PVC plug flange

sleeve, rubber grommet and O-ring. Half a twist opens or seals. For in-the-water fine tuning (inflation and deflation) of a surf mat`s air volume, without removal of plug.

With a minimum order of 100, I'm thinking this belongs in Industry Talk - not too many of us homebuild hodads gonna order a hundred of those puppies!  I'd give 'em a try, 'tho - anyone want to buy a hundred and sell me a few?

We sell the Gortex Vent plugs in the Retro Fit style or the Glass In.  They’re available at the shop or** **online.

We’ve had great feedback for the wood board builders as well as EPS guys.

Thanks for the support.

Brad, where are your plugs manufactured?

I used greenlight's goretex leash plug in a HWS and EPS build, worked great in both,

got a PM, made in America.

nice!

Made in China

Fiberglass HI has an asortment of vents. Gortex is rated by the transfer of air volume, per squre inch of clothe, the dont have the stats for that. There plastic vent have a peace of cloth that is abuot a quarter inch. I bought a few brass #'s, the cloth is about one inch in diameter. the bass vents are also fairly atrative. My only conpaint is that they dont mount flush.

Foam EZ and Fiberglass HI distribute my Gore-Tex vents and inserts.  This is the only vent on the market which is entirely made by W.L. Gore; designed and tested to military-grade specifications, particularly saltwater conditions.   It is not just a piece of membrane, but a complete valve assembly with the membrane sealed 360 to the housing.  Gore-Tex is a type of teflon weave, and the trick is in the bonding/sealing of the teflon to the housing.  Leakage in any vent is a much worse problem than pressure build-up.  The vent flows 400 ml/min at optimum conditions.  In very hot tropical conditions where a board can heat up quickly, or for 1lb EPS and hollow boards, I recommend 2 vents.
