Met a Swaylurker at Malibu yesterday who was riding his 3rd. creation. 10-0 step deck....Yater spoon influenced. I have ridden some of the 60's Yaters and none of them rode as good as this board. The Tylers and Cooperfishes that I have tried did not measure up either. Brian told me he learned a lot from Swaylocks.....I got no doubt about that!!
Wow, thanks for the kind words Roger! Here are a couple of pics of the board. I used a Walker 10’2 with old man foam and double 1/4" cedar stringers 1 1/8" apart. I also had them flatten the rocker a bit. Dimensions are 10-0, N18, 23 1/4, T15 1/2.
I glassed it with 3x6oz on the top and 2x6oz on the bottom. I used Resin Research epoxy resin. On this board I tried to pinch the rails as much as I could, give it some belly, and foil the nose and tail as thin as I felt comfortable with. I’m having a little trouble making nice curves, so it looks a little funky, but I’m getting some real fun rides on it. If you see it in the line-up anywhere in SoCal, I’d be happy to swap boards for a few waves (especially if your sticks are as sweet as Rogers-it isn’t every day that you get to ride a Paul Gross custom at Malibu!) I’d also like to thank everyone at Swaylocks for the awesome resources available here-without this place I’d still be riding some s@#$ty board that didn’t really fit me. Oh, and Roger, thanks for the fin recommendations, I’m getting on it.
cool story. welcome casapobre. your pictures are kinda small, so it’s hard to see what’s going on, but the ride review sounds very positive. good for you mate!
