Brilliant Moon/ start of the season

Anybody else out there enjoying the full moon? Just back from a ~5 mile paddle on my 14’ Bark. Killer evening- clear and calm, warm water and air, huge moon. Paddled out through the small beachbreak and immediately wowed by the intensity of the bioluminescence. The bugs were out there in force. Every paddle stroke illuminated by a big glowing cloud of disturbed water. Splashes off the hull were a spray of green, and even the sheet wash over the bow was dimly lit. Trailing my hand in the water gave a big halo and trail. Seems like a good way for Swaylock’s Rocket Science guys to do some fun casual research on fin foils and such. Seas 1-2 feet, just enough to keep the paddling interesting. The pelicans were a trip. Seems like they heard me coming because I never saw them leave the water, just kind of rising and hovering above for a few seconds before veering off. Funny how prehistoric they look when near overhead with the moon behind. The gulls flew overhead but weren’t interested. Gotta admit I turned to look pretty fast when the sea lion first exhaled close behind me, a half mile offshore near the Ventura Rivermouth. A big blue Heron at the small estuary where I put in, doing some night fishing, there was plenty of light. Good time for some training too. Stoked the autumn is here and we can expect bigger waves and longer sets! El Nino forecast just upgraded to a moderate event. Hard to beat fall in California. Last night got in a good mountain bike ride, fog was sucked in on the coast. No wildlife until just before I left the trail. Broke through one of those really thick spider webs, feels like a tread draped around your chin. Thought I shook the web but a few minutes later I felt one of those huge fruit spiders climbing into my armpit. Enjoy the season! Ride on.
