brisbane,aus

hello im looking to take a trip to australia in a few months time.but i dont want to spend alot of money on hotel.im going to be staying for a couple months if anyone is interested or knows anyone who would be willing to let me stay at their place for cheap please let me know.im clean person and i wont be bothersome.just looking to surf and have a good time. just email me at grayvolvo@aol.com thanks!

Backpackers are really cheap. But there are no waves here all the magazines tell lies. There is lots of sharks and we have a stingray epedemic at the moment. Because of the recession the abysinian stingray fishermen aren’t turning up for the barb season.

I seen some pumping waves in Brisbane. Just about every time the ferry comes past.

hop on a bus out of brisbane . bring a tent and camp nice and cheap. and i found alot of the beaches in oz had propane bbq you could use for free and showers. become a feral for a couple months.

yea was planning on doin that but seein as im goin alone itd be a bit boring you see

Maaaate . . . Why come all the way down here and stay in Briso? Do you know what it’s like? . . . It’s a city on a river. The surf is an hour’s drive a way. Head south. If fact the further south the better.

Monty

yea.brisbane is just where im landing.

if you dont mind noahs

north stradbroke

camp at main beach

sick aframe pits as far as the eye can see

should be a few gunnys about on the weekends

get pissed at the pub

you prolly wont want to leave

head south.stay at caravan parks(if you can)they seem to be at all the nice beaches.also, backpacker hostels are here and there…

go down south and surf snappers, rainbow, greenmouth, kirra, and d’bah all in a short time, thats the joy of coolangatta

gunnys are sharks…right?

; )

Solid advice from one and all. Go South, go downunder. If you go North you will be sorely dissapointed.

Surfspots North of Brisbane are like a mirage of an Oasis in the desert to a man dying of thirst.

You see them shimmering in the distance.

It looks like you can slake your thirst.

They look like the real thing.

You get closer and dive headlong in only to surface with a mouthful of sand

and a nasty rash.

Still thirsty and frustrated.

You turn back South for the real thing.

Beware the Sunshine Coast.

The great east coast wave desert which offers no solace for the thirst that drives you

(or Ford or Holden as the case may be).

Yeah no waves up north.

What time of year are you coming?

And do you really drive a grey volvo?

Steve

noahs= noahs arks farks sharks

gunny = hot beach pussy

kirra doesnt exist and snappers is crowded beyond belief

Unless you had a specific commitment/interest in Brisbane I would not base myself in Brisbane for a surfing/good time trip (I live there). As others have said it is at least an hour from any surf (that is with your own vehicle, appx. double that without).

Buy a car (better one that will sleep you) or base yourself somewhere that allows flexibility for wind/swell conditions. You might be on your own but if you are cool people will talk to you and you always meet people on the road. Camping grounds are a great Aussy institution. Backpackers are pretty cheap and will have lots of travellers.

Where might be a better place depends on time of year and your idea of what is a good wave. The classic way to surf the east coast is to do a road trip - get a surf guidebook or map and take your time going from the Sunny coast to far south of Sydney, stopping where you like. If you don’t want to drive that far - Gold Coast to Coffs area will have waves. A basic understanding of the coastal geography and conditions will get you waves.

A good way to go is to buy a used campervan here…I own a Hiace…with your exchange rate you will do well and you can stay anywhere you want for next to nothing…join our national parks and you can camp in some incredible places

Good luck…see you on the wave

im planning on going after december sometime. i used to drive a grey volvo station wagon.my first car.

December to march is cyclone season with predominantly North and Nor-east swells. This is the most consistent time for the QLD points with tradewind swells filling in between major swell events. School holidays finish end of january…Quikky comp is on the start of March. If you’ve got aspirations to surf the superbank then Feb is the month to do it. Hanging out all day, working the crowd shifts and hunting the bank you will score a shitload of ultra high performance point surf and see more hot girls then you’ve ever seen in your life.

If your young and single it’s an experience that is well worth storing up for when your old and decrepit.

From March onwards the swell window changes to include south swells and east coast lows…the whole of the NSW coast lights up in an orgy of high performance point, beach and reef breaks. The two magic months are March and May.

PM me if you want to pitch a tent in my backyard.

Steve.
