British Fish??

Hi all,

Have just about finished board number 3, and am thinking about a fish for number 4… thing is I have never seen one in UK waters…

Is that because the waves aren’t suitable (which I would have thought unlikely as we usually have smallish less powerful waves; the big ones in the ‘english waves’ thread as quite rare!!) or is it lack of experience or a manufacturing base or what??

Should I go for it, or does everyone else know something I don’t??

On a slightly different note, does anyone know where I can get removable ‘fish type’ fins, as the way I transport and store my boards makes glass on fins very impractical.

Thanks

Chris

there are some out there though not many. everyone seems to want to ride matchsticks these days

fin wise make some fcs keels though maybe put in three tabs instead of the two depending on how big you are going to make them

Hi Chris,

I do Fish fins in F.C.S. with a triple plug combination you can get me at <script type="text/javascript">eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%66%69%6e%66%65%6b%74%69%6f%6e%66%69%6e%73%40%6d%73%6e%2e%63%6f%6d%22%3e%66%69%6e%66%65%6b%74%69%6f%6e%66%69%6e%73%40%6d%73%6e%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b'))</script>

Regards Rod.

Hey chris - there are a few of us who ride them… I’ve made a few, Chris Griffiths does some corkers … the 6 9 a blank’s what you want…good for spots like…(tell you in feb!)

There are loads of UK shapers doing fish eg Beachbeat, Bear, Du Feu - Very few Pure LIS/Frye fish. My pins are only 9" Maybe they have adapted them to UK waves.

I ride a Sam Du Feu fish, its great big windswell and orgasmic when my local break is really lined up and peeling cleanly. I ride it all the time, except when the beach breaks I ride get big, too fat or too hollow (Usually at the same time)

Definitely go gor it.

Maybe someone would care to suggest modifications to a fish for less than perfect beach breaks ?

hi all

sorry missed this thread.

re lack of real fish shapes in the uk - wierd on, it seems the uk surfers lack the education of them, hence low demand, less choice.

Despite many brands selling ‘fishes’ they are often high rockered, wider short boards with a swallow tail!

i have wanted one for years, but could never find anyone who would make one, so i gave up got a 6’9a and made my own!

(6’1 by 22 1/2 by 3 - 12" pin to pin - twin keel fins)

They work fine in uk waves, they are very suited to the smaller size and flatter faces we suffer, plus when it turns on they still go great.

From what i know, fcs plugs holding in large keels can still pull out, lockbox do nice keels and the boxs hold in well, otherwise make your own wooden keels, or check other threads for some guys who make / sell them.

i hope that helps - enjoy the ride!

as ever

keen to learn…

Go to www.ksusa.org forums (it’s a kneelo site) search for MarkyV I think it was, built his own fish in UK recently. There’s a thread with a lot of tips on it. Or search Fish or …

Thanks all…

Sounds like it’s worth a go, and the fins from Finfektion sound like just what I’m looking for.

Now need a 6’9" blank and some time…

Silverback - the move to Wales might be delayed a few months, but should definitely be there by the Summer… I don’t expect you to give away all the best spots for a few months (years??) anyway!!

Chris

I use Finfektion fins on all my fishes and they are bloody marvilous, I’ll be ordering some more in the New Year if anyone wants to tag a set on (I’m in Bournemouth).

Drop me a line if you need some fin placement info.

Happy Christmas Joe

nice one bunrsie, I like sam’s boards, he used to work for beachbeat but cut out on his own and now shapes in Swansea, so I have much respect for his integrity, He’s also real enthusiastic, not too many peaple have heard his name so thanks for droping it.
