I have a really good board sitting at home in two pieces!! i was wondering > if any one could give me some advice on how to fix it!! it is snapped > clean straight across the middle!!! Here is the eaiest and best way I have found for putting boards back together, but broken boards almost ALWAYS break again, ahead or behind the original break! Get a 10’ length of threaded pipe with clamp heads, put the board pieces on a rack that will support both, deck up. Align the pieces and put the clamp heads on the tip of stringers, nose and tail. Slowly tighten the clamp, as you do the rocker will start to return to the correct position. When the rocker looks right, paint some resin along the break, enough will run into it to hold it together. Leave the board clamped until the resin is completely cured. After the clamp is removed, get the skil saw with a carbide blade or a swap meet disposible and make a set of cuts paralell to the stringer about half way out from center. Make them long enough to cover the area that suffered the damage. Insert a set of strips from door skins or similar material into the cuts with a liberal coating of resin on them. When these have cured, sand the living hell out of the area that needs to be strengthened, go down to you hit weave of the cloth. Reglass, sand and finish. Don’t worry about trying to make it pretty again, it will most likely break again sometime, but it will get you up and running. Don’t try using pencils or dowels to realign or give it strength, vertical rigidity is what you want. http://www.JimtheGenius@aol.com
In addition to the above, you might want to route two 1/4" slots through the board on either side of the stringer. Insert two pieces of 1/4" ply or resin panels. Similar to the woodies on either side of the fin box on some noseriders.
