Here is my 5’11" steve Brom fish. Its a really fast board, made for fast waves. Its only about 20 1/2" wide, and doesn’t work well in small weak waves. I don’t know much about his other models.
I have a 5’11 Brom Fish as well. I know he was shaping his boards from a specific longboard blank in order to get the perfect rocker, thickeness etc.
Mine is 20.5 and about 3 inches thick, and as flat as a pancake. He carries a ton of thickness throughout the entire board. I ride mine is small waves no problem. It seems to go good in just about everything. Very fast, easy to turn, just really fun to ride.
Great guy to work with, not sure what he is using now as far as blanks, but I have seen some epoxy Broms I think. Overall, the board shape is very unique.
How does their performance they differ from other fish - i.e. a Pavel? (they look like they have unigue outlines, rockers and bottoms)
Does Brom make his own fins?
Just curious as these boards look unique and I’m thinking about dropping some serious cash on one.
Thanks?
I saw a used one for sale yesterday at the beach house( also a 14’ epoxy paddleboard). Those boards made from the clark foam are holding in price. Brom is still around, working like crazy, juggling family life, and hot wiring. You can reach him through his contact information. he hears you.
Anyone rode a Brom as well as other fish that can compare the differences?
I hear a lot of people saying the Broms are the best, most versitile board they have ever ridden, but I’m curious how they differ from say Pavel or Liz or Frye, etc.
Hi Nacho – Hey, all of those boards are hot. Just ride yours for a while and enjoy. If you are lucky enough to get on one of the others, all the better. Fish are everywhere these days, trade off on rides w/ other surfers.
i have a 5’10" brom fish (i’m 6’2" 180# (that’s 12.5 stone for you brits)) that i love. i have really good days and really shitty days on it, and can’t make late drops on it to save my life. definitely work best with some water behind them, solid 3ft faces (i’ve ridden it in up to about 6 ft). before this i had a mandala quad for about a year. in my experience, the brom is faster and more loose, and subtle changes in weight (ie, front or back, center of gravity) are much more noticeable on the brom. much more front footed. it is a more difficult board to ride than the mandala and really takes of quickly, so reaction (pop-up) time is limited before take-off. all in all, i do enjoy it a lot.
Thanks for the input - and the pics. Seems like the broms can handle size more readily thatn some of the other fish. Seems Brom goes with a flatter, thicker more narrow design.
Thanks for all of the nice comments everybody ... Nacho, I'm @ surfenginez@hotmail.com ... I'll take care of you ... have fun !!! SB
