I currently ride a 5’6" Mabile fish and was looking into getting another fish, perhaps a Brom. Anyone ridden both extensively and would care to comment on their differences? The comments I’ve read that appeal to me most are that they are super fast with a good amount of glide. My Mabile is fast but I could use a little bit more help across the flats and around sections. Also, I haven’t seen any Broms that aren’t glass-ons - are Lokbox keels an option?
Can’t give you a comparison between the two based on riding experience but I have seen a Brom w/ removable fins.
A few months ago, a 5’6" Brom was posted in SwayBay for sale. The ad is still posted:

It seems that a lot of folks don’t pull old ads but this board is still for sale. How do I know? I saw it last weekend in a surfshop in Pacifica. Looks nice and I would love to try it but it’s way too small for me. Price was great though as it’s been marked down from the ad more than once.
Yup, I’ve seen that one and sved the pic. I wish I was in the area, I’d pick it up…
Cool to know they do come with the removable fin option. Thanks.
thanks to pacificvibes, i’m able to answer the question for myself! kudos go out to him for giving me the shop info where he saw the great deal at. the 5’6" brom arrived the day i left for a trip to pr, so i brought it as well as my 5’6 mabile. with only a week of time switching between the two in unfamiliar breaks, i was able to notice quite a difference between them but still need more time on the brom to dial it in. i got to surf a variety of beaches than i’m used to - point, reef, rock and beach breaks - new jersey is mainly sand bottom beachies. all in all i found the brom to be more versatile and i liked it way better backside. it seems more forgiving than my mabile, has more volume all around yet duck dives better. i did find it to glide better and go faster without much effort. on the other hand, the mabile felt a little whippier and likes to be pumped more. i might be going against the grain since it seems like most people like their broms for points, but since it works so well backside, i’m more inclined to take it out in our fickle beach break conditions. i think the mabile will be my choice for cleaner days when i want to throw it around more but the brom seems to do it all, just need more time on it. thanks magicman on a great design and thanks pvibes once again.
outoflurk: any chance you can post pics of outlines, fin setups & rocker profiles of both boards?
…
nice !
thanks for posting those .
If it’s not too much trouble , at some stage I too would like to see a rocker / keels comparison shot , if possible please ?
And , lastly … what are the dimensions on each of those boards , please ?
cheers mate !

Well done Outoflurk … If you post the side view, foil, or profile. double check the respective fin locations … Glad that your enjoying the board … That Clark blank is the way we used to glue them up in the 70’s … Hang on to it … It will open new doors if you let it (green doors) … Have fun … !!!
when I looked at the photos I noticed the fin placements and rockers. the jig is up.
Thanks for the pics and reviews Outofluck!, that Brom looks so sweet. I’ve seen it before on sale but it was too small for a big guy… lucky you.
Coque.
outoflurk: thanks for posting this stuff mate.
magicman - i’m definitely gonna hang onto it. i returned from puerto rico to a continuing flat spell and i can only grin while remembering some great rides i got out there. i really need to break out it out asap in some northeast waters - the board hasn’t felt home yet!
outoflurk,
Would you be willing to post the fin placement measurements of the Brom? They look farther forward than the Mabile. The Brom buttcrack appears not to be as deep as the Mabile, too. How long is the Mabile? Mike
both are 5’6"
