Bubble in the nose

Hey guys -

I’m doing a repair on a nose snap and I’ve got it all good to go - I noticed, however, that I’m having trouble getting a clean lap on the apex of the nose: it tends to form a bubble while curing which I later have to patch. This is the second time I’ve run into this issue and the only things I can think of are either A - I’m leaving the laps too long on the nose making it difficult to evenly wrap or B - I no longer have a nice covered area to glass at my new house, so the lam is exposed to some intense sunlight while curing.

What do you guys think - will exposure to sunlight increase the temps and cause the glass to bubble? Or should I just try to make my laps shorter at the nose to prevent a “wraparound” glass from one rail overlaps the opposite rail and wraps onto the deck) on them?

Use a gloved hand and work the resin with your fingers.  Don't pull the cloth so tight that it either forces out all the resin and starts sucking air ( think of over wringing a sponge)  or it is so tight it cant wrap the corner.  save a little dab of resin to put on the nose real thick when you are all done. Then all you have to do is reshape it a bit and put a hot coat down.

Shoots thanks resinhead - I think you nailed it with me wrapping it too tight, I was kinda wondering about that. I’ll bet thats what happened with the others too

You always have to do some babysitting of your lams as they dry.  Too tight, too loose at corners and noses always happens.  The trick is to quicky correct these when the resin gets to a sticky B-stage and doesn’t move as much.
