I remember my surf buddy Steve Wurster had one in "71. We were on the OCC surf team. He fricken RIPPED on that thing. I made a few and really liked 'em. They were short and a little tough to paddle. Came off the bottom really well. It’s like you were turning from inside the board. aloha
You guys make me laugh, ha. I really don’t feel like aguing with you guys about you theories and mine. I think they don’t work, gonna trap water on your deck and make it heavy. We are talking about a concave like 3/8" deep. Your feet wont even go up to the edge of the rails to get real good leverage. As a very wise man once said “if it looks good, it works”. That man is one of the worlds greatest shapers, John Carper. This just looks like it would work. Nobody doesn’t want to ride a board that doesn’t look good because you will not want the board to work and blame everything on the board. Ahhh I’m goin off again,I don’t want to argue about it. But here… you send me pictures of you doin nasty shit on your concave deck and I will show you some pics of me busting air with a normal deck. Hows that sound? If you are doing crazy airs I will shape a concave deck right away and give it a try. Send your pics and I will load mine in my computer some how.

s also why we don
t see any kneeboards with concave decks around anymore, either, cause their decks all filled up with water and sank! I knew there was a good reason for rounding off the tops of surfboards! “If it looks good, it works”??? Wow, I just heard the same thing from a used car salesman the other day, too! Must be true. Any other nuggets of wisdumb?

Who the hell still kneeboards? Why would you go on your knees if you could stand up? Samething with body boarders. They stand up on bodyboards but still would ride a sponge. Oh well, they can do whatever they want. Still a deck concave is not going to work man. Decks are curved because it rounds off the rails easier so they aren’t so boxy, and it also forms to the foot better. When your shortboarding your not leaning to do a turn, your using your back foot for your control. The only thing I can think of a dec concave working now is a longboard when your moving around your feet and using body weight to move the board. But still a a gap in the board isn’t gonna wrap to you foot good. flat surface and a curved surface, all your foot wont be on the board. I dunno I don’t care. You guys wanna do? by all means do it please. But Boyd your still moron.
A study was conducted in which people were asked to rate themselves on how much they know. The results of the study showed that the less a person knows, the higher they rate themself. The more a person knows, the lower they rate themself.

m going to ignore the name calling, ES. I come from the school of thought that considers all forms of wave riding to be surfing, but a long time ago (too many years ago), I also shared your viewpoint... I
m ashamed to admit that I understand that opinion, inside out. Perhaps you should consider asking WHY… …Kelly Slater and Tom Curren such fine bodysurfers? Its not just for retrieving lost surfboards. ...an outstanding, lifelong surfer like Tom Morey, who could imagine and create almost anything if he wanted to, would bother to invent the bodyboard? ...someone with George Greenough
s decades of wide ranging knowledge, seemingly endless time, talent, effort and finances would end up preferring to ride a surfmat over all else? Or at 60 years of age, bodysurfs underwater with dolphins? …was kneeboarding so dramatically influential that it forever changed the course of conventional surfing? I could go on… but the fact is, people all over the world have always enjoy riding waves in different ways, with different means, with different results and feelings… some more successfully than others for a variety of factors. So, if Im out surfing and not having enough fun, not able to tube ride or accelerate and trim fast enough, or those turns just don
t satisfy… its the ocean that clues me in. Not the latest issue of a surf mag, the hottest videos, pop culture fashion trends, or attitudes that say "can
t", "wont" and don
t…

t work. Well said Dale. Bottom line the beauty of Swaylocks is the free discussion of design and the pros and cons of each variable. If something is interesting and one is so inclined, then most of us can build it and learn from the experience. We also enjoy the gift of feedback here which is valuable in any endeavor. I feel sorry for those who’s immaturity causes them to embarrass themselves for all the virtual world to see… Thanks Mike for the information and clarifiation of the concave. Dale, your words are always right on the money. I’m out, Magoo
Dale I didn’t say anything about bodysurfing, although that is another weird thing. But surfers sometimes have to do it to get their board as you said. But if Kelly Slater and Rob Machado do it that doesn’t mean it works and everyone else should do it. Just to clear that up. Also I don’t care about all those inventive things, bodyboard, surfing mat or whatever you called them. I’m a surfer and think surfing is the ultimate. I think everything else is a waste of time. That is my opinion. Their is a lot of kooky stuff out their that is just weird, deck concave. The thing that bothered me was people were bashing my opinions instead of having explanations. You see my reasons of why it wont work and you see theirs. But I don’t care anymore, not worth arguing with a bunch of morons.

Hey, ES, As long as we can honestly and sincerely debate, thrash about and still agree to disagee agreeably without getting personally abusive… welcome to Swaylocks!!

How did you ever develop such an illogically bigoted attitude towards so many things and people who you obviously know nothing about?
