Build thread

Some have mentioned missing a good old fashioned build thread - well, here’s a nice one I stumbled across while searching for something else

great build thread, shaping and glassing both.  Its a very nice job on a longboard glassed with a tint, well documented with pics and discussion.  Lots to see here.

Lately I like build videos on YouTube etc… I do agree with what someone said before - there’s sum pretty bad ones. Otoh - there are many good ones in there that demonstrate the fundamental shaping techniques if you can “-read between the lines.”

Here’s a few: proctor hand shaping surfboard, tim stamps quad fish, Terry Martin of Hobie surfboards etc… there’s tons of excellent glassing vids. These vids demonstrating techniques and procedures used by the pro’s.

Very nice Huck, thanks for sharing. Did anyone ID the planer that Goddard used/is his avatar on that site?

PS After re-reading he mentions that it’s a modified Ryobi. Reminds me a bit of an old Powr-Kraft with the chute, front handle, and depth knob.

cheers for that , Huck

  ronnie "duck’’ goddard …  a coffs harbour shaper for a L O N G time  !

I posted photos here once [ during my ''chipfish61 " days] of the single keel boards he was making in the early 1970s , around the era of the crystal voyager footage of nat young , riding a RIDICULOUSLY long keel …

Huck - that’s a good thread! The other day I checked it out no pics loaded ? Wierd.

After reading the thread, the only thing I don’t do is to bother w paraphin wax. Dunno, I don’t think it’s necessary. The planers move perfectly w out any aid. Maybe the stuff makes it slippery?but I’m just gonna plane it and call it done.
It must be a new idea sum shaper thought of, but in a basic regimen it’s not needed.
