If rails are a little too thin on an under 6ft shortboard, can you build them back up with:
-
can you build them up a little?
-
it’s done to hotcoat, maybe another hotcoat?
-
if glossing, it’d build up a little but wouldn’t you sacrifice weight?
-
can you add a rail section of glass down each side at all?

One layer of resin = about 1/64"
One layer of saturated glass = about 3/64"…so too many layers needed.
You can buy sheet foam at the same store you bought your poly surfboard supplies.
You can also buy higher density Airex/Divin, but it’s really hard to wrap the rails well with that stuff.
A naked blank, it’s easier to apply a whole sheet foam to the bottom, rather than try to build up from the curved deck.
