buying a longer blank to lower rocker

I’m looking at blanks for a 6’0" fish and the 62a looks like it has too much nose rocker.   I don’t want to go too thin on the board , so do I get a longer blank and measure template  from the middle? This would be my first board so any help would be appreciated.

sure. that'd be the way that i'd do it. i've only got 4 boards under my belt tho

If you center up on a longer blank you'll have a lot of foiling to do at the ends, not the easiest thing to do on your first shape. But look at it this way: you'll get a feel for how it was ''in the old days'' before close-tolerance blanks.

Hi Ekim,

You don’t necessarily need to buy a larger blank.  You should be able to order a custom 6-2A with the rocker you desire.  Getting the natural rocker reduced is not an issue unless you want to reduce it by quite a bit.  Each blank has it’s different tolerances of how much the rocker can be changed.  Custom blanks only take us a few days to get.  If you order by Friday we can have it by the following Wednesday.

I hope this helps with your decision on getting the correct blank.

Good luck-

Brad

I wasn't sure if an individual could order a custom rocker, but if you go through a service like Foam EZ it will certainly work! That is your best solution to getting the rocker you want in a blank that's close to shape (well, almost. none of those fish blanks are truly close-tolerance)

first board? I’d avoid adjusting the rocker rather just go with the flow, use the nearest blank and shoot for something symmetrical and with minimal bumps in the foil. This is coming from a backyard hack so grain of salt

That’s the point of this post Bud.I totally agree.I want to shape a 6’0" fish  cutting the least amount of foam as possible.

ANOTHER QUESTION!!!

Where do I cut the 2" off the 62A blank to make it a 6’0"  ,the nose, or the tail?

You said earlier that you wanted less nose rocker.

So I would cut the 2" off the nose.

ha ha ha, geez 'Ding, you do good stuff... i guess i'm pondscum with Ekim...

nothing like a visit to Swaylocks to keep my ego in check. =)

Regardless of how many boards we  have made or might have made has no meaning.

It doesn't make anyone better than the next guy.

To share and to be generous with our knowagle and to give freely to all who asks is true craftsmanship.

A true Craftsman keeps his ego in his pocket.

This is the spirit of Swaylocks. Or should be!

None of us are pond scum because i we are intellegently designed creatures very complex and capable of many things.

Now let's go do the right thing and build some boards!

Kind regards,
