C-Drive fins *PIC*

has any one else seen these fins? has anyone tried them? ive used them and i really like them… lots of drive and really loose! i would say amazing increases in performance! http://www.feraldave.com

Are there thruster set up side fins that are the same shape, or is this only a center longboard fin? What is the height? Where did you obtain this?

they look like thruster fins… its a wide angle photo so it conveniantly distorts things a bit. i think that i saw them in sydney a while ago on a guys E board he was doing sick airs and realling tearing up the joint but i didnt recognize him!

Hi Dave, well i’m amazed at seeing this photo. I have about 10 versions of the same thing and have been working on the project for 2 years or so. This one is a mix of two types I have done. The lower keel base should flex a fair bit for it to really work. I gave a set of twins to Beau Young (Nat’s son) a couple of months ago, and a single over ayear ago. They feel unreal with the flexing drive of the bigger base, in combo with the refined standard foil, of the standard bit. Who did these ones? I bet it was the guy that does sth Coast foam, cos he cut out all the different planshapes for the tri fins ie heart shapes, 2 leaf clovers, claw shapes ets. And they were in the same blue panel. That was well over a year ago for that panel. I did the foiling cos you can imagine they are a trip to get right. Cheers Greg Webber

Welcom back Greg. I guess you’ve made it home and decided to continue posting here and under your own name. Man, this place keeps getting better and better. Thanks Swaylock, Rob Olliges

Greg, Did you meet Dev Gregory while you were here? He brought a similar shaped fin to me a while back. But, as I recall it was fairly full in foil and kind of stiff. Good to see you’ve decided to continue to contribute to the board. There are lots of interesting ideas exchanged here. Tom

Hi dave, I just remembered that Kieren Perrow has tested my ones a year ago…FCS didn’t seem too interested hense no further development. GW ps on that other post: loved your idea of the silicone fin rovings test, perfect way to do it…I’ll bet that if someone else fiddled with your fins on ten waves, yet you never knew when they were removed, no-one would know. Displacement of entire surfaces through uneven rocker has vastly more effect than the tiny crossectional area of which they represent. GW

I appreciate your welcome to the site, Rob, at 2.20 am over here I’m obviously really into it. Wish I had known about it earlier. Greg W

Just posted a reply but can’t see it…yeah I’m stoked to be involved! greg W

Hi Tom, sorry I missed you the other day, one of the guys said you dropped by just after I left. I think I did meet a Dev…pretty scattered though, maybe I’d just heard of him. GW

hi greg, welcome home, im glad your back to oz and the shaping world… i would love to leave my operation for a year and do some serious testing then come back to a business. the photo was from cabel rowlinsons element board in japan at the quiksilver airshow! i had a blue set too for a few weeks!they had been layed up using simular kind of moulds to greg trotters. my understanding is that 3 guys have gone into partnership and patented the design! they are currently being drawn up for plastic fin moulds and will be available by crissy! if your up on the gold coast soon i would like to catch up and discuss a few of your projects i would like to work on you with! i have been compiling info to eventually write a shaping resource book too! http://www.feraldave.com

Yeah, I heard I just missed you by 10 minutes. Oh, well maybe we can get together next time your in town. I’ll take you out to Sunny’s for a little Italian food, a beer or two and the infamous eye candy.

Will they work on a longboard, who is making them for you, Phil in Ballina?

i guess my previous post answers most of your questions jason. http://www.feraldave.com

Hi Dave, can you get me the contact details for the 3 guys making the fins? I think they will find it hard to patent the principle, in that I patented the concept of the trailing edge being capable of flex, with only the front of the fin being fixed to the board. They might geta design patent for the actual shape itself, but this is the easiest to get around with modest shape changes…yeah, would be good to catch up. Might come up after Europe. Greg W

Hey Mr Jones, I have made a full size longboard fin with a trailing tip. feels amazing. More hold and a gliding extension out of turns, almost negates the need for side fins. Greg W (can’t remember who did them for me, maybe Phil Way of Rod Anderson???)

GW Thank-You, so Phil in Ballina made you the longboard fin, does he still have the template, who do I order from.

hi greg, i thought the same about their patents. however is a diffucult one to foil so they are making a mould and its easy then! people can buy a set, easier than going thru the trouble of making then by hand! i will try and get a contact for you. one of they guys works part time in a factory near me so i see him intermittantly! phil way is a great craftsman and does do a good foil! i will see you up here then!, dave http://www.feraldave.com

Hey Mr Jones, well my memory is stuffed, maybe I foiled it after all, have done heaps so got confused. Talked to Phil and he is going to give me a quote on the job…you can order through me, by email at 'll give you a price by this arvo. GW
