With the El Niño impending, lets see the boards you guys are planning on dusting off this winter! Double overhead rincon, macking Steamer lane, heaving blacks, what will you guys be riding?
First question
Hey I am ancient and what this olphart calls a step up is a
Board between groveler and a semi gun.
So here’s what my Boy is riding (I sure as hell can’t anymore).
The 3 stringer she got a few (2 few) sessions last Winter at Rincon. (Gun)
The round pin also last Winter and she got alot more testing. (Semi gun)
The last is the current step up made last month and is coming along nice.
Well, there are no photos, as the project is just starting. I’ll be doing the glueup tomorrow. The board will be 7’ 9’’ x 21’’ to a 7’’ square tail. While intended for California, the design has been battle tested in Hawaii, on the North Shore. It is a high speed, high performnce, proven design. Single, thick foiled fin, in an FU box. My personal experience with this design, includes Sunset, up to 15 feet Hawaiian. Short of Mav’s, anything else in California should be within range. That’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it !
I made this 8’4" last year for a buddy of mine who took it to Hanalei in the winter. It came out so nice that I’m starting to make a copy of it for myself… and yes I know the picture is weirdly slanted… but then, so am I.
Beautiful clean lines as usual, Keith. Can’t wait to see Bill’s 7-9… Mike
very nice Keith
I hope you do see it, as I’m considering a variation of the ‘‘secret foil’’ on the fin, that will be supplied with the board. It will be something quite subtle, that nine out of ten folks will not (hopefully) pick up on. I still want to keep the foil on the QT. If you do spot it, don’t spill the beans.
6’10 x 19 x 2-3/4
made from US blanks red 7’0A
6 bottom 6x4 deck yellow polyester tint… final weight with no fins is 8 lbs
made with 6-8 ft (maybe a 10 footer too if lucky) hawaii or mainland mex in mind…hangin on the wall in my sons room waiting for a plane ticket…
Anyone had a leash plug rip out on boards like this?
This.
!!!
Hi Bill. No bean spiller here. Mike
Never had a leash plug
“pull out”
leash break?
Yeah.
One more
and I go back to the no leash era
so with only one plug and
big enough NS
caught inside
board is tomestoning and I’m 10 ft down and swiming against the leash
only time I wished something (other than me) would give or break.
Ah, no luck
just took a pounding…
love the Welsh dragon. What’s the connection?
