Dims are 6'8 x 20 1/4 x 2 3/4. Have 6.5 fin in slot 6 inches from tail which is still sligtly more fwd than recommended but like a slightly looser board but still toolin around with fins. Will try to post some pics soon.

...I know best...(no I dont this isnt a thruster)
Ok by some fluke I think the Cambpell Bros are right with their fin placement recommendations, like I said before my fin was 6 inches up from the tail becuase on my thrusters I like a looser ride, the C bros for this board/fin recommend 5 3/4 inches - with good reason. I have had a alot of fun bottom turning this Egg and driving up the face but the reo's/top turns are so good I'm over correcting and heading out of the pocket back towards the foam - it feels great but I'm ending up a one trick pony when I could be heading down the line further - I reckon adjusting the to the correct setting will cure this, also have caught the rail on back hand a couple of times.
This mail just for those thinking about getting a Bonzer and demonstrating a) read the instruction manaul and advice above b) you'll have a hours of fun blowing the top of your head off with the boards
Thats it from me.Enjoy!!
PS - what i like the most is when people say yeah I thought a fun board would be good today and then they ask you 30 mins later what the hell are you riding its lightening, and I'm average at best!!
Just picked up an egg that Malcolm shaped and shipped for me (7’2" x 21 1/4" x 2 11/16"). …just waiting for the temperature to get above 0/32 degrees so I can try it! Here’s some eye candy…

Just to add a little something,if you have a chance to try a Bing Synchronizer,Matt Calvani 's take on the Bonzer 5 fin,try it.I use my 7.4 in bigger surf, with the 5 fin Bonzer set up, center fin all the way up,it’s magic to me,seems like you can’t do anything wrong with it,backhand or forehand.the only negative is it’s hard to duckdive deep, being so thick and wide, but it surfs awesome.I have caught occasional 15 foot faces(8 feet hawaiian),but normally 4-6ft hawaiian,it’s a dream. My first bonzer was shaped by Mike Eaton, for Bing,1971, if I am right. I tried to get in touch with Malcom, but never got a reply, next time I am on O’ahu, in a couple weeks,I’ll take a drive up to Hale’iwa and check out the store.Aloha
I initiated contact with Malcolm through the custom order page on their website: http://bonzer5.com/dealers/custom-order/
He responded with email and then arranged a phone call. I found that he usually took about a week or two on each email exchange, but I was in no rush. He’s such a nice guy. I really enjoyed the process.
That is one very tastie looking egg.
Sick looking board, looks great.
Malcolm and I exchanged a few mails even after I had the board, he gave me a few good tips on fin placement etc....very interested in feedback etc....hell of a nice bloke it seems. Try again Kava the feedback for my board was invaluable re: fins etc...must have just slipped into the mail ether...
Re: your quote clumsy surfing = broken board, have just creased the nose of my Egg getting to excited hitting a small lip and heading into swallow water. Clumsy the word.
Those Bing boards look very cool. Guys have a look at some Neal Purchase Jr or Mick Mackie boards they both make Widow Makers and Bonzers (amongst other boards) in Aus, worth a bit a of a perv.
I have a 7’2" bonzer egg (red one pictured above) and was wondering what the best rear foot placement is on them when riding them off the tail. Just looking for some advice from more experienced bonzer riders than me (I have very little experience). Should my rear foot be centered over the rear fin? Placed just in front of the rear fin?
Greenstick,
"Final tuppence worth - I would stick with the glassed in side fins unless you are going to travel a lot with it. "
Just wondering why you made this suggestion. The only problem I had with the Bonzer I owned back during the 70s was that it developed stress cracks at the bases of the side fins fairly quickly (and NOT as the result of any impact). I’ve noticed this same problem in various used Bonzers I’ve encountered over the intervening years as well (mostly the 3-fin variety with the longer side runners). Would think that using side boxes there might help mitigate this issue, though the glass-ons probably save weight and may be thinner (less drag?).
kava,
The Synchronizer fin guide PDF downloadable from Bing’s site is also worth a look and provides more incentive for using side boxes as opposed to glass-ons.
Hi Kava
My experience is limited to 6 bonzers, all 5 fin and 3 with fcs side fins.
The fixed fin boards have all gone superbly. The 2 of the fcs boards have not and in one case tracked terribly. Of those 3 only a 9'+ longboard is a keeper. I have noticed that on the fcs boards which do not work so well the fins are not 100% on Malcolm's dots with the worst one that tracked being 1/4" off or so. The side fins are small and I have travelled with the fixed side fins without losing any, but well packed and using loads of pipe lagging to pad around them.
All fixed fin boards are the bonzers which I dream of, loads of drive and carveability, solid in the pocket and get this average surfer out of the rare tube he finds himself in with speed to burn. I have had no difficulty with stress cracks at the base of the 5 fin bonzers sides. The boards I have tried and own have been glassed by Moonlight and in the Ocean Magic glassing facility, Foam Asylum.
I have not tried the 3 fin version, but have had great reports of it on smooth faces. A light vehicle variant may be my next bought board, a few to get rid of first!
Hope that helps
Greenstick,“limited to 6 bonzers”? that makes you a Bonzer expert in my book! on another note,I see that Stewart makes a 5 fin now, winger something, anyone try one?.I was reading some time back, forgot who the shaper is,well known, saying that he invented 5 fin boards after seeing a tuna fish that he just pulled out of the water, what a joke,he later acknowledged that the Campbells shared that idea with him.I caught an octopus the other day,had EIGHT tentacules!!!Aloha
