There is a lot of glass damage, especially on the rails.
On The section of the rail that I fixed, I used the original glass. I took a dremel and very carefully cut out the section that had delamed. Then I sanded the inside part of the glass section clean, removed all the damaged foam, did a q-cell fill and re-layed the original section. Then just filled in the cracks and top coated.
Now the 1.5’x2.5" section is barely noticeable.
Not sure what to do with all the other sections. It is all water tight but you can clearly see the spots where large sections of cloth have splintered. Some of the sections I can tell have separated from the foam, even though they are not soft.
Hi SynergyTodd, Welcome to Swaylocks. Nice board! I see Pat Ryan often and he’s still at it with a smile when I see him. I think it’s best to leave the board as close to being intact as possible. A good friend of mine specializes in vintage boards, his name is Randy Rarick. He’s a easy guy to talk to and enjoys helping guys like yourself in preserving surfing history. Mahalo,Larry
Thanks for the reply. I would love to talk to Randy about some more detailed restoration.
Pat might be interested in seeing it as well. The board is number 0967. Considering how many boards he has made, I imagine this one was made a LOOOOOONG time ago! LOL
Hey! I’m supposed to get with you this week about your Probox installations.
I’ll call you tomorrow and see if we can get it worked out.
