hi guys i am about to lam a eps board and want to put a little color in the reisn, i was thinking only enough to make it not see though maybe a lime green with a bit of yellow, or just soild green, i plan to cut lap
i have talked to a couple of guys who said PU resin tints "should" work but what to find out for shore before to go ahead, if that a no go i could just tint the hot coat as its PU resin, but the color may not be as nice as in the lam
hey any advice is great hope to lam in the next day or so

You can use the pigments and tints that are used in poly boards or you can get the the tints from a paint shop they will also work with Kinetics epoxy.
Forget about colour in the hotcoat unless you are an experienced sander and even then it will dicey. If you do go down that track keep plenty of the original mix for patching.

Mooneemicks right , tints form the paint shop (Mitre 10) work fine. Tint the lam unless you really have some serious sanding skills!
Only issue you may have is that tints over EPS (mainly low density stuff ) tends to go a bit blotchy. Even spackled smooth it the resin seems to soak in and you can see the foam structure.
Haven't done a tint over a white primer or epoxy/qcell but that may help stop the blotches.
If you want a good colour, spackle and spray the foam with acrylic paint (I use Resene test pots and they are great). Huge range of colours.
good advice here as well: http://www2.swaylocks.com/forums/advice-dark-blue-rreps-resin-tint
that sounds great i think i will try the test pot idea,
all i was after was a light coat to hide the eps foam and would rather not tint resin, do you water it down alot ?
cheers

what you are seeing there is actually air bubbles in the lam. eps is horrible for glassing and will always have air in the lam if your blank isnt perfectly finished with no texture in the foam.
not so obvious with a clear but blindingly obvious on a tint. with a poly you can squeegee in thinned resin but obviously with eps any thinner will melt the blank.
there is a way to alleviate it without spackle and sealing, but i will not post it here
so much farcking around. just use a bennet
your other issue will be your laps/ the epoxy bleedsunder the tape like a bitch as it takes so long to kick. guranteed laps will be ugly and hard to cut
Hey Twisted Stump,
A mate of mine makes Keahana EPS boards and uses Fgi polyester paste colours and keahana epoxy resin . He does the whole board so he doesn't have problems with taped laps bleeding. He also uses a base coat that is some sort of qcell mix that he sands off b4 laminating. They come out perfect colour, but he's been doing this a while.
I hope your getting somewhere with this bro, good luck

Hey Mooneemick, That board looks killer. Is the foam eps & did the lap bleed bad?
