Canadian Maple for Stringers?

Anyone know how 1/16 Canadian Maple would work for either perimeter stringers versus bass/poplar

or for use as a skin layer compared to balsa, poplar or western red cedar?

If used as a perimeter stringer how would it plane or how workable would it be to the other hardwoods

I got bunch of 11"Wx1/6"Tx50"L panels of canadian maple from a skateboard deck company that I was thinking of using for perimeter stringers or as a bottom layer and internal springer. One sheet between the bottom and top sheet of EPS and one sheet on the bottom would "lock-in" my fin boxes between the two to prevent shifting/twisting in the soft 1lb EPS.

I've been using 10mil woven bamboo but this box 1/16" thick  maple panels keep calling out to be used for something other than a laminated skatedeck..

anyone know anything able working maple?

I'm from hawaii so maple is an unfamiliar wood

although I've been using birds eye and quilted maple blocks and veneer for my other woodcrafts and its stunning...

I think it'll work great. At only a sixteenth thickness, it should be easy enough to plane. That stuff is really hard though, so make sure your tools are sharp!

You should have no problem working maple that thin. I wonder about the usefulness of a stringer less than 1/8" unless it is for appearance or closely spaced multiple stringers.  A well glued springer makes sense though.

Idea - Lam. up some fin or tail block stock alternating patterns with some other dark veneers.

Maple is a very hard wood, you will have to do a lot of block planning to keep the stringer flush with the foam while sanding.

Its also heavy at 40 (+/-) lbs/cu ft. That could add up to a lot of extra weight.

Thanks folks

this is something I did back in 2004-2005

it's one of the first 1.5 Marko's that I lammed in balsa and for some strange reason decided to run a sheet of 1/16" thick x16" wide of maple down the middle of the deck and wrapped it around the nose and tail using strapping tape and a vacuum bag. One of my better riding compsands. I got the maple sheets from roarrockit in canada but this sheet I used I got from joewoodworder I think it was 90"-100+" long and 48" wide. I still have alot left which is why I been thinking of using it instead if piecing togethor scarfed joints of small pieces of something else.. Oh yeah that's our glassing stand CMP gave us. It's one of this hydraulic hospital food tray lifts. Works good
