can't find bert's fin-making thread

It was a classic but the links I’ve found http://www.swaylocks.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=161667

appear to be broken.

Anyone have any idea where it might be?

Thanks!

C

Hey C-slug,

Well good news is here is the link - http://www2.swaylocks.com/node/1010491

Bad news is the pictures seem to be all gone :frowning:

Mike

Manyana Mike,

Thanks, bro! I miss the photos but the descriptions are better than nothing.

Take it easy,

C

No Problem,

I hope when the new sways is all complete that the photos some how magically come back to life…

Mike

Craw,

You gonna make some fins?

why dont the pictures show up.

i dont like the new sways as much, nothing is much better, and many neat pictures have been erased forever./

just one of a multitude of documents extracted and formatted as word ducment on my builders archive i made for everyone a couple years back.

maybe some one has an extra copy they can send your way.

if i could load a file to this website i’d put it all on here for you all.

I made a whole CD of build stuff I’ve garnered from here and elsewhere over the years…

Ian,

Yep. A couple of ply keels. Man, foiling fins is fun!

One thing I noticed is that the nice professional ply fins I see only reveal 3 plies per side. On a 9-ply sheet that would mean 6 foiled layers and 3 unfoiled, which would make for many flat spots–maybe they use 5-ply wood? I tried to make the whole fin curve front to back and I ended up sanding down to reveal 5 plies on one side and 4 on the other. They look OK to me but nothing like the topography of the pros.

I’m going to surf this weekend early so call me if you wanna come. Peace bro, C

Oneula,

I saw your post about the CD and tried the link you used but it was broken. Thank you very much for the kind offer.

I think it was one of the best posts I’ve ever seen here and it pretty much lays it out for all, which was why Bert created it. I mean, think about how many questions that post would preclude over the years. It more than pays for iteself in server space!

Have a good one, C

progress for the sake of progress ends up being a giant step backwards

I’ll try and find some place to load up some of the files and then you know where you can down load them.

Many things on your CD do not work anymore with the “NEW” Sways.

Yeah… I second that!

Yeah… that sucks… big time…

Thanks Oneula, that post is going to keep me busy for months
