I mentioned in a recent thread that i was working on a stringerless carbon fiber railed speed dialer…happy to say its done and in the owner’s hands tonight!
the glassing schedule went as follows:
top and bottom laminated w/6oz…looked like a vanilla fish
then the carbon rails were lamintated w/a bunch of peel ply and pressure to get a tight bond and the right resin/carbon ratio…then a layer of 4oz capping the deck/rails to seal the deal.
had fun with this one, enjoy the photos!

thanks to Rainbow Fin Co for some epic fins, yet again:
the dots on the glue line are my primary fin dots…i place the measurements on the center line and move out to the rail from there to make sure im at the right spot, or if i need to go back and adjust a dot i can get at it quickly
you cant see the tape line under the carbon in about 80% of the board, so you just have to take it slow and peel as you go to make sure youre on the right spot.
the carbon was layed up by hand and then peel ply was stretched over the rails to “suck” it down and get a better resin ratio than by hand.
I happened upon surferguy80’s shop while he was adding the carbon. Chemical sensitivity kept me from checking it out up close. Finished product looks awesome!
the deck is concaved a little bit, yes. I like these types of decks alot because you can distribute more foam to the rails, and have your feet closer to the water (i think thats a HUGE plus). I really dislike thicker boards because I cant personally feel whats going on in the board…the more foam there is, the more muted it feels, so anything you can do to lower the amount of space between your feet and the water, while still keeping volume (closer to the rails) is a benefit in my eyes.
