For the recessed part? Carpet? Berber? Shag?!? Indoor/outdoor?!?
I have the foam rubber for the top of the rack.
Thanx,

Any of 'em will work… The Berber’s a little too stuffy/yuppy for me… I’d go with a shag and give it a more groovy look…

Where do you get the foam for the shaping racks? I was just in Home Depot and they had me going from section to section and I never found what i was looking for.
you may not like it much, but it’s very nice for keeping stuff in place. Have had carpet on my repair and sanding racks, and the foam carpet underlayment holds stuff in place better. Carpet tends to let stuff slide across it, while the foam carpet underlayment tends to keep it still.
hope that’s of use
doc…
But where do you get it at? That was my question.
Carpet Dept., Home Depot or any hardware store!
Use the carpet against the wood racks, then use the foam undercarpet for the outside that your blank touches, exactly the opposite from laying carpet on the floor.
I used to have the foam on my racks but have since gone to the rudder like placemats from walmart and works much better then the foam or carpet hope thins helps .

…exactly what i was going to say…he really is serious…i use those foam sleeping pads in the camping department…a big one costs about $5.
I use plumbers lagging. the foam that goes around pipes before you pour a slab.
Ah, sorry about that misunderstanding on my part.
Best is to find a new house going up or an old one getting new carpeting: the left over scraps of carpet and underlayment foam can be had for the taking or at worst a sixpack. If you know a carpet installer, then they always have bits left over, too small to be of use to them and ideal for what you need.
As a side note, it’s rare to find a construction job without a fair-sized scrap pile. And what’s in it, short pieces of wood and small sections of ply, make great ding stands, drying racks, sawhorses and what have you. If you ask politely, then generally you can pick through 'em - the builders have to haul it off when they are done or pay to have it hauled. Just be sure to ask and to leave a neat pile when you’re done and of course a few beers or the equivalent, cos someday you may want to do it again.

I use pipe insulation tubing that I get at Home depot.
They sell two kinds there…both black, one feels more like styrofoam and the other which I use feels kinda like a wetsuit… more rubbery feeling, that is the one you want. Get it as thick as you can. The board never ever slips with the stuff.

On the foam side, I always hit up the upholstery shops. They are always willing to give you old foam seat cushions or foam that is too small to use in a seat cushion. I am able to find different strengths to use in sanding also.
