Cedar SUP - Better Photos

Better photos than the other post. After rough shaping, ready for final sanding.

Real rocker and concave…not the flat design often seen in hollow wooden boards because of difficulty constructing rocker and concave in wood.

Southern Red Cedar has nice variation in color that will enhance when resin hits it.

Imbedded a petrified sharks tooth in the nose deck, in a shallow well of epoxy resin (RR no Additive F). Will glass over this.

Outstanding!!! That came out soooo good. What was the build time on you hollow?

Great looking board! That shark tooth is really cool - how did it glass out in the final? What was the final weight?

Nice Driveway!

j/k

Nice board.

Thanks for the photos.

I’m with craftee–sweet jag too;)

Answer to questions:

  • did it in under a month…estimating 50-60 hours (just guessing)

  • weight 45 lbs

  • driveway - concrete - thank you

  • Jag - not mine, storing it for a friend who moved…it doesn’t run…and unlike the board I doubt it floats euther.

Beautiful board. I love the shark’s tooth. I had thought about glassing “artifacts” into my boards too. Got any detail photos of the finished shark tooth?

Anyways, congrats. Gret work. Nice gloss too. Epoxy or poly?

Epoxy with a final gloss coat(s) of Varifane Marine Spar Varnish, per recommendation from Mike Cavecchia of Grain Surfboards (Grainsurfboards.com) in Maine.

Closeups from my camera of the sharks tooth insert didn’t turn out because the flash reflects back off the gloss (no…the camera won’t allow for turning flash off manually). sorry.

Try shooting the picture at an angle, not directly facing the subject. The flash reflection will bounce away from the camera. We are all curious to see that shark tooth in action…
