Center Double Concave- First Board Build Attempt

Hello All,

First board build attempt, long time lurker, Most probabably out of my league for a first board build, but i keep reading about hulls and im attempting to make a hullish S Deck With center double concave almost a tear drop shape. I guess im just looking to share and get some constructive critiscism.

This will be used on NJ/NY beach breaks

I eyed out the whole thing. Plan on thinning out the nose and keeping it flat , then fade into the concaves , then flat into the tail. Hows She look so far ?

The pics are not good ,  the concave looks extreme but having said that he board may work great for you where you surf , go for it . good luck.

What would be the outcome (ride wise ) if the concave is to extreme ?

The outcome , ride wise , would be for you to determine , you may find the board is magic under your feet . an extreme concave is a concept an opinion by another , in this case me , I wish I had not said it  , dont follow , go your own way , you may surprise yourself . good luck.     ps there are advocates of extreme concaves  ( M Cole) and now others are following them .

freddibetts,

How far have you gone?

Any concave is something that really needs thought.

Maurice Cole, has had success with the tow in stuff, not that some of us were snoozing.

Common sense in entry rocker and flow through the concave(s).

Deeper= faster with sacrifice of maneuverability.

IMO pull down the stringer to a nice consistent flow and blend in your concaves.

Ball’z keep it up! PM me if you like a little more help!

Keep the stoke and here is my stupid 2 cents!

Aloha!

Like gbzausa mentioned, M Cole has some very nice theories behind concaves, search for it on youtube!

However, I like my boards flat.

That’s looks like Robin Mair’s quadramatic design

email him and ask him about it

combines idea’s from McCoy(loaded dome), Brewer(triplane), and others

I can’t help think of the Gibbs brothers and the Steve Miller Band sone “Space Cowboy”

everything I hear “Maurice” in my head

mow-reece to some

mawress to others

I havent started measurements yet, really just eyeing the whole thing out, started to even things out last night and made a pair of calipers to get more accurate.

It looks to me that you have put the Cart before the Horse. I would have done the rail bands and worked out the rocker and thickness before going to the concaves.  From what I see you seem to have moed some foam and layed out a template then went for the concaves.  By the way the nose is slightly off. But an easy fix.
Don’t take this as criticism Just some advice and a few pointers from a rank amateur builder. Others with more time on a planer will chime in I’m sure.

Go for it.  If we all followed the tried and true there would be no innovation.

Yea , basicaly, in that order . The pics are in the beginning stages. If you guys are interested ill keep updating . Still evening things out. Looking for the critisicm thats why i posted it up.

Thanks All
